    Re: XM radio

I have no idea if this is true and suspect its an internet myth, but I read somewhere that at least some receivers only have an off or on status that can be set by the satellite providers. When a contract starts they send a turn-on signal to the receiver. When the contract is over the service sends a turn-off code to the receiver. In both cases it does that repeatedly in case the signal didn't get thru but doesn't do that indefinitely. The tale is if you get one of these, pay for the service and then before the contract is up stash the receiver in a lead box for a year, it will then play indefinitely without paying for service. As I said, I don't know and suspect its not true but get a chuckle from the thought of anyone going thru all that just to avoid paying for service.

I got one, 'way back when. Hell, you can get 3 months for about $20. Just call them and say you want to try it, but the asking price is too high.

    XM will deal.

    Seriously.

I got free three months for my Buick by calling and asking if my XM equipped car worked with Sirius. They hooked me up right then and there no questions asked.

When your contract e expires, they keep it going without your authorization and charge you a friggin bundle. I used a credit card to sign up years ago (GM card), I didn't agree to auto renew, my card expired and had been lost so I had a new number on a new card but XM some how charged my card anyhow. When they did they charged a Ton!

For what it's worth, I didn't have to give them a CC for my 3 month trial.

Same here which didn't make sense because I know I read somewhere that the 3 month free trial wasn't available to buyers under 21 years of age. I had assumed that was because a minor agreeing to an auto renewal wasn't legally binding. But since neither of us have agreed to an auto renewal (via CC) I don't know why they would deny a minor. Interesting.

Taking that thought further... Ask for 6mo gift cards for Birthday and Christmas.
I like my free HD radio. I always find something good to listen to.

    Re: XM radio

You have to be careful when you order Sirius (or XM or whatever it's called), I picked up the Disney and kids channels at the Dealership when I bought my wife a Minivan. There was no material or channel list available to review, the salesman just said "you gotta have the Disney channel" so I paid for it. That upgrade comes with some hard core porn channels as well, you have to call and have those channels removed so your kids don't stumble across them.

I don't dispute what you say but that is not my experience. For $2, they will send a bill instead of charging a card.

On one occasion, I gave them card info and they sent me a notice 40 days before renewal. I had plenty of time to negotiate a new deal.

Now, someone who doesn't open their mail could easily get renewed at list price, like any magazine subscription. I don't accuse you, Kooooop, but they may have cleaned up their act a bit.

The card they had on file was expired AND I had changed the number on the card since my wife's purse was stolen AND I didn't agree to automatic renewal.

That's a lot of clean up to do.

They are no better than Time Warner in my book, yet I still have both.
