Ferrari to be an American brand?

If you're like me, you've probably refrained from buying a new Ferrari because you only buy American.

Good news! Fiat (who owns Ferrari) is considering purchasing the rest of Chrysler. And since Chrysler's market cap is higher than Fiat's, there is a good chance the "new" company will be an American one rather than Italian. http://blogs.reuters.com/breakingvie...silver-lining/

The implications for "Are you faster than a Redneck" are mind boggling.

Re: Ferrai to be an American brand?

Ferrari America ???? Nothing wrong with that. There have been world class sports/limited production cars built here for generations. Better Ferrari America than Ferrari India ........ or Ferrari Korea.

Begin your homework with (recent history) Ford GT, GT-40, Mk-IV; McLaren/Elva/Chevy (Nickey/Traco), Chaparral (Jim Hall), specialized Corvette, and on and on and on ...........

Re: Ferrari to be an American brand?

Chrysler, under Lee Iaccoca, tired to buy Ferrari back in the Eighties. Ferrari ended up selling to Fiat, and Iaccoca was successful in buying Lamborghini (only to move it on to a Swiss group and later to VW.

For many familiar with Ferrari automobiles during their glory days of the fifties and sixties, the "real" Ferraris ceased to exist after the they became a subsidiary of Fiat. Truth be told Ferrari's road cars have probably been better cars since Fiat took over, but V-8 cars have never had the panache of the V-12 cars.

All that being said, Ferraris will never be American cars ..... just as Chryslers will never be Italian cars, both are designed to meet approval in far different markets.

Think of the implications - 2021 - "I just bought a 2016 Ferrari AutoAmerica coupe with sunroof and 46,000 miles for $7,300. I need new front struts but the asking price of $3,400 each is crazy ! I mean, the car only sold for $457,000 new, and new struts cost more than the car is worth!"

Re: Ferrari to be an American brand?

I was reading another article about Fiat possibly buying out Chrysler. It hinted strongly that Fiat would move their headquarters to Auburn Hills with Chrysler and try to make a go of it as one world company. It makes sense seeing how horrible the European car market(especially Italy) has been doing the past couple of years. Personally I don't think it will ever recover. Europe will be a way distant 3rd behind China and the USA in terms of sales over the next decade IMO. Plus all the political instability in Italy and a questionable future for the Euro, I could see why Fiat would want out.

That's the way it has always worked. Why do you think the inner city is full of 2005 and earlier Cadillac, Lexus, and MB cars? They are almost the only ones willing to put up with them once significant repairs begin (read: drive them till they stop - no expensive maintenance required). Everyone else just buys new.

^^^ ...simply driving cars that are in such dire need of expensive repairs as to be deathtraps, uninsured at that!
