I love to own more than one car too. It should be fun, especially if you own two very different cars. For example, a classy full sized car such as Cadillac Seville STS or fleetwood brougham as the first car and a fun drivers car such as BMW E46 or a 2004-2006 GTO as the second car. But the problem is on an island you can barely use or find a parking spot for a single car, let alone owning more than one car!

I've always gotta have a 4WD of some sort along with my cars. And right now we've got 3 cars between the two of us. One of which is a 4WD. That's not including my jeep that's at my buddies farm either. I don't care so much about having the fastest cars. My V6 STS is fast enough to me. I care more about comfort and simply getting there. It's nice to know if we've got a foot of snow on the ground, we can still get to the grocery if we have to. Then it's also nice to know we've gotta car that can get 34 mpg on the highway. And then we've got the car that pampers you. My STS.

I love owning more than one car as well. Especially since they are so different. And in the summer it is a great thing being able to fall back on one of them should one have an issue. I miss having a 4x4 since it was COMPLETELY different than my Challenger. I may be looking to remedy that in the springtime.

Re: I'm Thinking about buying a 3/4 ton 1989 suburban

I loved it when I had the ability to have multiple cars.

It was especially great back in the late 70s early 80s. Before family obligations and vehicle needs. It was outstanding to be able to drive the Fleetwood for a few days, drive it to my parents house (where I had them parked) and hop in the Spitfire and drive away. Park the Spitfire and take the C 20 with 10 1/2 foot camper for a day. I never had two of the same type of car. I would trade one for a similar use vehicle. Monte Carlo replaced by Fleetwood, modified Super Beetle by the Spitfire, and custom van by the pickup camper.

Once "anchor points for car seats" became a part of my world a lot of the fun went out of my stable.

Fleetwood eventually gave way to a mini van then Suburban, Spitfire gave for an Old's Delta 88 convertible then that to a Wrangler, and the camper gave way to a house...

Nah. A Fleetwood Brougham Hearse and a '67 GTO. Excellent pair that compliments one another well (and looks so darling parked with my bike, outside my pink house with the white picket fence)

On a serious note though, there are a lot of benefits, even beyond personal enjoyment, of owning multiple cars.

Yeah, but you can always get another 4x4 down the road. They're not going out of style any time soon. For now, the Cadillac(s) and Dodge will have to get you by.

That's a pretty tame duo .... if you are going to have two cars for one person at least make it interesting, more like a Towncar and a Viper! Sports sedans are nice for transportation but when all is said and done they are still just "family" cars with more "gusto!"

Re: I'm Thinking about buying a 3/4 ton 1989 suburban

I like owning more than one car because I'm a car enthusiast. They're my passion and a lifelong hobby. I also like having the choice of what to drive on a nice summer day. It would be nice to own three very different sorts of cars, sports car, luxury car, practical car, but this is fine for now. I'd like to add a classic to the fleet this summer. A nice Mark III Lincoln would look great in my garage!
