    Re: What do you collect?

If the stylus and cantilever appear to retract into the cartridge groove at the recommended tracking force, the polymer suspension donut at the magnet assembly has collapsed and the cartridge is toast.

    Re: What do you collect?

Love that MT album. I had the original vinyl (still may have) & bought the CD version a few years back.

I still have the Dual 1019 turntable purchased when I got out of the Peace Corps in 1969.

Are you guys playing vinyl on regular basis?

    Re: What do you collect?

Just about every evening. We never watch TV .......... music is more graphic.

Dual 1019 - does the little three-fingered record spindle still work ?? I used to let it lie and use the small center pin, turntable in manual.

    That's only half the vinyl.........

    Re: What do you collect?

    Good Grief; that is impressive!

I have not used the Dual in years but, yes, the multi-play spinndle did work. I suspect it still does. That was one hell of a well made table; it was a real work horse for 25 years. Even when tapes became popular I kept buying vinyl (33 & 45) so I could make my own tapes.

Remember the ReVox A77 10" reel to reel decks ? I had 2. If you were in the Med, from '68 to '70 I was stationed in Naples - worked part-time as an assistant manager at the NATO AFSOUTH Audio Club in Agnano. We sold a LOT of 1019's.

    Re: What do you collect?

What kind of music do you like in vinyl, 409? I have 50 to 100 33 albums around here that will never be used. If your interested, I could ship you a few; no promises on timing.

Lots of jazz with Mann, Tjader and 70s pop groups. All are in good shape...both record & covers.

    Re: What do you collect?

I have it all, including Cal Tjader - everything from Beethoven to Brubeck to Bela Fleck to Fleetwood Mac to Alabama to Dire Straits to MJQ to Sinatra to Streisand and Vangelis. There's always room for more. I would clean them up on the Nitty Gritty record cleaner (vacuum and cleaner machine) and catalog them. (www.needledoctor.com for the machines)

Over 200 limited issue editions, still sealed. 45 rpm 12" singles of Pink Floyd and Dire Straits mixing lab work.

You get into Mark Knopfler ? Find his CD Shangri-La. Mark Knopfler / Emmylou Harris ? Find the CD All The Roadrunning. Pour a good Scotch & water, turn down the lights and hunker down in the sweet spot. Hope you like incredible guitar work and subterranean bass (Not the hyped up car stereo 100 Hz thump, thump, thump....... real bass.)

    Re: What do you collect?

For some weird (but sonically listenable) piano jazz, dig up the entire Koln Conzert by Keith Jarrett. (33 LP only, the CD is awful.)

Something else, if you have the system to handle it - Dire Straits - On Every Street and/or Brothers In Arms.

For just plain sonic guitar fun, Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler - Neck And Neck. Vinyl only.

Remember Charlie Byrd ? Were were friends. Karen and I used to hang out with him and his brother Joe (bassist) at the Maryland Inn in Annapolis - laid back jazz in the King of France tavern. His drummer was Chuck Redd. Amazing artist also.

    Re: What do you collect?

I'm into bicycles, too... This one's my pride and joy. A 7' long stretched beach cruiser with one-off custom mixed paint from a company which went out of business right after I bought it. It's a single speed bike, and it weighs like 90 pounds. Needless to say, it's more than a pain to pedal, but it's BEYOND comfortable.
