Re: What are you listening to?

Of course Queen was awesome. There is no one who can sing like Freddie Mercury. Fun fact: Brian Mays possesses a PhD in astrophysics, and could have just as easily sought a career using it, but felt it was a worse use of his talents.

The last page was awesome. Considering the unusual set of circumstances I was raised in and the people involved, I grew up with a very sparse and vast collection of music. A continuing theme however was that so many of the figures in my childhood listened to music from before the fifties. My Father was a big fan of music from the thirties and my personal musical collection consists of a lot from this era. His (And my Mum's) musical taste left me growing up with a lot of their "Dago" music and customs. My Father's memorial service consisted of "Oh Marie" as performed by Louie Prima, along with everything from Frank Sinatra to Guns N Roses. On a typical day, if you were in the general neighbourhood of my Parents' home, you'd know if he was home, just because you'd hear his music well before you could see the house.

On an unrelated note, this thread also needs more Henry Hall.

I could go on and on about varying levels of Queen's awesomeness, but to add onto your note about Brian having a PhD, Queen is one of the few bands from that era where every one of the members had a college degree of some sort. Freddie had a degree in graphic design, Brian has the degree in astrophysics and Roger and John had degrees in different fields.

Freddie had one of the 3 best voices in rock and roll of all time. It really is a shame he died back in November of '91.

Death On Two Legs is probably my favorite song of theirs.
