Re: What are you listening to?

Nice cover. Never heard that one before.

Here's my exhibit for the moment (not actually what I am listening to, but earlier, while I was at work, yes)

The girls were rather shocked I knew all the words.

    "Well, it's Oldschool music...AND it's Irish...."

One of them asked "Really?" so we watched the video. As soon as the casket appeared, she realized, it obviously was indeed.

Some who are old enough to remember when the original song was released may remember that there was a rumor that the scream in the song was actually from a murder that took place in a neighboring studio and was caught accidentally on tape! It did a lot for sales and airplay because the DJs would hype it in the intros.

The Jump Around at the end of the third quarter has long been a big deal at UW home games.
The cantilevered concrete grandstands actually get flexing and moving several inches up and down during the celebration. Years back they had engineering firms in to make sure it was safe.

This was just this week voted as the best tradition/celebration in college athletics!

Guess you'd have to be there! I personally refer "The Wave." First time I was involved in a "Wave" was at the final socccer match at the 1984 Summer Olympics at the Rose Bowl. The performance of the "Wave" was a lot more fun than watching the soccer game!

The Sister and I are in this massive house and one of the attics is full of Christmas decorations.

Maybe we should put away the Halloween Decorations too. Or add Santa hats to them, at least.

I was at the NASCAR night race at Bristol, Tn. when Guinness was there and the world record was set for the biggest "wave". There were over 168,000 folks participating.

As a Badger myself, I've come to realize that U of Wisconsin alumni are not very creative with there "U Rah Rah!" Wisconsin alumni get togethers around the country are called "Badger Boomers," but should be called "Badger Bummers" for all the excitement they cause.

Re: What are you listening to?

I am not much of a sport fan in general, so I have not been to many games. My ex used to work for Madison Newspapers and would get us tickets sometimes and I made a few games. The sensation of the huge concrete grandstands flexing underfoot is quite disturbing!

The last time I actively went to UW football games was in the 70's when Rufus "Roadrunner" Ferguson was on the team. I am a huge fan and very proud of the academic and research achievements of UW and am sorry to hear our alum (Present company excluded of course. ) are so unimaginative.

University of Wisconsin - Madison is one of the great, world class universities on the planet ..... the co-eds aren't bad either, I know from experience! On, Wisconsin!

However, I don't think the athletic department of any university should be held up as part of the intellectual assets of the school, although supposedly athletics makes a lot of money for the university.

Damn it. I can't get rid of this band, they're quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Re: What are you listening to?

As they should be. Celtic music is the lifeblood of all of existence.

I've met and hung out with that particular band several times. They're just big enough to frequently tour, but not so big that you can't sit down and chat with them.

Dullahan, Have you heard any of Patrick Ball's Celtic harp music ? I have a half dozen of his LP's - no idea if they're mastered to CD - but he makes and plays his own brass-strung harps. Pretty music, very well recorded. Some of it qualifies as sonic wallpaper, but some of the Turlough O'Carolan works are stunning.
