Watching/listening - Ice skating/dancing to the Mannheim Steamroller road orchestra. NBC

"Christmas In The Aire", one of their collection of holiday albums, is particularly impressive on a home audio system that can put out prodigious amounts of clean bass - not a "thump, thump, thump" car system - a home system that reproduces true bass.

Three great choices Sub. I love the fullness of sound on good old big band. I have to go dig out my Mannheim Steamroller, tis the season!

Re: What are you listening to?

Has anyone noticed that this year's crop of "new" Christmas songs played on the radio is particularly lousy? I don't remember the names of any of particular new songs, but it seemed that the ones I hadn't heard before were even lower than "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" and other recent additions to our "pop Christmas" repertoire.

Re: What are you listening to?

Honestly, no, only because I don't really listen to the radio (I did hear that damned Gangam Style thing while walking by the entrance to some "Planet Hollywood" place yesterday. Dave...this is your fault.)

I have spanned myself so far from modern media, I am recently finding myself surprised at how far I've gotten from it. There are...like Ten television sets in this house and none are ever used and though all of my cars have radios, they remain unused as well. I find people I know mentioning things like a massively popular film in theatres or asking me if I saw a particular commercial, heard a certain song or whatnot and find myself completely lost as to what they're talking about.

Apparently John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" was used in Skyfall. Too bad I have no idea what the f**k Skyfall is. (I suspect a film?)

I have always been really talented at...not knowing pop culture. Like celebrities. I recognize faces and know some famous names and typically have no idea which face goes to which name...or even what said named celebriy is famous for (Acting, Singing, Etc)

That being said...Given what I know about modern Music, I.E. Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj/Minaje (Spelling unsure) and Justin Bieber, I am really...REALLY glad I am not hearing today's "Modern" Christmas music (Admittedly, out of the three named artists, I have only ever heard music from one of them and that was only one song, one time...but I reserve the right to absolutely despise them all with a passionate hatred, regardless of if I have heard their music or not)

Furthermore, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer is a fantastic song. I have it on Vinyl and Casette.

That shouldn't be surprising. It must be hard to write Christmas songs with out mentioning Christ or Christmas in them...

Probably easier to take Pagan Hymns and change the words to "Christ". Oh wait. Whoops.

Is that still a secret in Americaland?

I think Americans have become overly sensitive and are so afraid of possibly offending someone, they avoid saying far too much and thereby, say far too little. A difference of Faith/Ethnicity/Lifestyles should realistically be embraced in society and not the kind of thing you fear mentioning, especially not in case someone may get upset by YOUR beliefs...

That being said, I am interestingly listening to some Holiday Music at this very moment (purely by random happenstance, as I've the entire library on shuffle)
