Re: What are you listening to?

I've always been a big Phantom fan. The original '87 cast recordings with Crawford, and Brightman, and Ball. Not the Butler and Rossum crap. The orchestration was better in the movie, though. All I Ask Of You is my favorite song in the play. Brightman wasn't the prettiest thing in the world, though...

    ----------

Oh, and I picked up a couple of new records yesterday. Diana Ross and The Supremes Greatest Hits (1967 printing) and Janis Joplin's "I Got Dem Ol Kozmic Blues Again Momma" (1969 printing).

I'm not a country fan, and I enjoy some Johnny Cash. I hear "Jackson" almost every night through the lobby music at work, and it's grown on me... Forcibly.

I've been totally hooked on this song since I first heard it. Absolutely love it. The Bassnectar remix is just as good, and I usually hate that dubstep crap.

Anyone else see this? This man. This man, right here.

He not only has flawless taste in Music, he owns what I've long ago explained is most likely the single-most badass car on our entire forum.

I need to buy this fellow a pint.

Could be worse. At my job, we cycle through who is playing their music. Thereby, we get a lot of...variance.

Nothing BAD perse, but the lackeys definitely appreciate some odd music. And when did all these hits come out that are meant to have an accompanying dance? Because despite their greatest efforts, I am not learning these.

Re: What are you listening to?

Not presently, but earlier, I was listening to this. What makes it odd is that I did so while pulling through the rows of antiques at the local weekly Classic Car Show. Happened to take the Pontiac this week (First Saturday in a bit that I had) and was playing this as going through. Mostly elderly people there (who remember their fifties cars when they were new) who come to enjoy the cars and dance to the period-correct music. Had a woman ask me "When a young man like myself started listening to that type of music."

Evidently, my outward appearance does not properly portray what I listen to. I wonder what type of music people thought.

    ----------

Also Dave. Not sure which songs are on The You Tubes, but a LOT of their music, however off-topic or random is very catchy. "Spoiling Ivan" or "Bag Of Glue" for example.

Their greatest song however is "Ba Mhaith Liom Bruíon Le D'Athair" which I trust you've seen the video for by now.

    ----------

And here's the video for all you other folks. While the song is meant to be a parody of various Stereotypes for the group the band usually refers to as the " Americans on Youtube" the song is rather serious and apparently includes English captions. There is also an English version with a separate music video.

    You've got it all wrong.

Dave is ALL AROUND a badass. A pint would be far too insufficient.

Re: What are you listening to?

Bag of Glue is one of my favorites! They are so hilariously inappropriate, I love it.
While I am German/Swiss/Polish by ancestry, and spent most of my formative years with Italians, for years I was friends with a gent who was co-owner of an authentic Irish pub in town here. A genuine F the Queen I.R.A. joint. So I developed an affinity for the Irish as a result. Also years of listening to Elvis Costello had some influence too. When you get into his deep album cuts and listen to the lyrics you find many very strong political songs.

As to the pint, I have sort of left that to my past. I stick to NA beer and wine now. I could be convinced to make an exception for a special occasion and getting together with a good friend would certainly qualify. Give me about a year, and I'll drive, or better yet, find us a driver so we can enjoy the rear!

Here is one of my Favs from EC. His "love song" to Margret Thatcher.

    You guys are too kind.
