Re: Do you still use CDs?

    I'm 30 years old and its kind of hilarious the various formats I use . . . . .

I have a ton of CD's, I'm working on a small collection of vinyl records, and I have about 5 tapes to my name. I also have a $10 a month subscription to Rhapsody, which is where I get most of my music streamed from into my Iphone 5.

So for the home stereo, its a late 70's Pioneer SX-3700 2 channel stereo reciever, 45 watts RMS. I know this is kind of on the late/crap end of Pioneer receivers, and the digital display for the radio is crapped out. But I bought it for $50, had it refurbed for $100, it sounds like a million bucks. It really makes the 1990's Cerwin Vega LS 12 floor speakers dance, turn it past 4 and it makes the pictures on the walls dance lol

Turntable is an old refurbed Dual 1228, CD player is an early 90's JVC XL-XV118.

Just saying, if you shop for quality, vintage 2 channel stereo equipment, you can get some serious gear for about the $500 I spent on my setup. My neighbor hates me so much that I can't turn it up past 4 or so its so loud. Main thing it is clear as a bell and will rattle your walls down at a 7 or 8. Best part about it is with those 12" woofers in my floor standing speakers, bass, mids, highs, all sound like they should, ie awesome, with just two speakers.

BTW I listen to A LOT of metal, so this speaker setup is ideal for what I listen to. Really for any music setup, just buy a quality floor speaker with a 8" or 10" woofer, as even at low volume they will deliver the correct quantity of bass, rendering an auxulariy subwoofer unnecessary.

I have a 50+1 changer in the garage, and its mostly filled (all non-mp3 CDs) and still carry them in vehicles as well. I have lots of mp3 music and several MP3 players but rarely use them.

3,300 LPs and about 175 CDs. All the CDs are used for sonic wallpaper - the turntable is far, far better at sheer music - from ABBA to Clark Terry to Dire Straits to K.T. Oslin to Police to REO Speedwagon to UB40 to Winton Marsalis to ZZ Top (and a few in between).

The 6 CD changer in the car was last used in 2006. It works; so does the single slot and the cassette, but car audio - any car audio - is a joke when compared to a good home stereo system.

My living room stereo system is currently 475 wpc, a tube/transistor electrostatic/dynamic hybrid with tubes above 250 Hz.

For me, all home audio is a joke compared to car audio.

Re: Do you still use CDs?

    My '78 Trans AM WS6 has a Pioneer AM/FM, 8-Track and CB.

I don't even remember what my Syclone has. Don't even recall listening to anything in it. In everything built in this century I have factory or aftermarket SD cards for music. The others all have CD players or changers, but only a '97 Formula has regular CDs in it. The others use WMA or MP3 CDs.
