As much as I would like to leave CDs alone I still have no choice. My DTS doesn't have Bluetooth audio capabilities nor a hard drive. Unless I can get an aftermarket head unit, I burn a playlist as mp3s onto a disc. There is an aux jack, but I don't want a cluttered look with wires and devices and such.

For the most part I do not listen to country, rap or techno and "Dubstep" is in fact not music, just the sound of an electric razor thrown into a blender with a vague hint of Dialup whitenoise...but other than that, I listen to at least a little of everything

Because of this, the mood of my music can be very odd if left on random, with the thousands of different songs to choose from. I have a Lacky at work who plays a game where she tries to either make up a story out of the song titles on random (From anyone's collection) or to write a list of events for the movie based around their life and match them with whatever song comes up next on random. This is why I have her sit at a desk with a phone and some computer screens instead of someplace potentially dangerous.

I too associate certain music with places, or memories of them. It is kind of surreal to be someplace I have not been in six years, but used to frequent and have the car decide to play the same music connected to memories of this place on the stereo while passing through.
I truly listen to all types of music.

I still buy CD's There's still something about being able to hold on to what you buy. I think the quality is better too. I eventually convert them to MP3 to listen on my touch or PCs.

Do I still use CD's? They still seem futuristic to me!

I was stubborn in the '80s and bought vinyl when all my friends bought cassettes. I didn't completely switch over to CD's until the early/mid 90's. Now? I listen to CD's in cars with CD players, but in still play cassettes in my '94 Eldorado... Hey, how can you go wrong for 25 cents per tape at a thrift store? That's 2.5 cents per song... I-tunes is how much? Right now I'm stuck on Robert Palmer's "Riptide". Have had it in the Eldo's tape deck for weeks now. Sounds great to me.

Oh, and I just recently got one of those little tiny memory cards for my phone, so maybe I'll see if I can download (or upload, or whatever it's called) some of my CDs to my Blackberry. That will bring me into the 21st century, right?

Re: Do you still use CDs?

Tapes stretch, digital downloads can disappear. Tis why I like having CDs there and waiting.

But I do like buying singles on MP3. I can hear a song I haven't heard in a while that I love, use Sound Hound to detect and identify the song and use that to link to Amazon. I can then have it downloaded and ready to play while that song on the radio is less than a minute old...

By the time the tape stretches I'm sick of it.

In all seriousness, it's hard to argue against the benefit of downloading... But I'm so technically behind the times that I don't really know how to put things in mp3 form...

I have some 25-cent vinyls purchased only for the cover art. So much fun to collect and look at.

Re: Do you still use CDs?

My room mate got a record player for his birthday last year, so I've been buying some vinyl as well. I think I've got ~15 different albums now, and a few of them I keep hanging in my room because I like the album art so much.
