I remember seeing Winn Dixie store fronts that looked like that when I was a little kid. THE BEEF PEOPLE!

^^^ I remember driving 1956 Cadillacs like that when I just started to drive. To this day I don't remember ever seeing a Winn Dixie store in person. Isn't Winn Dixie the quintessential southern super market?

Too funny, my great aunt drove a white Plymouth Acclaim exactly like that one in the picture. When she died my aunt inherited it with 20,000 miles and she proceeded to drive it into the ground on her 60 mile commute.

I think we had Piggly Wiggly up here in MN, but it would have been discontinued long before I was born.

Red Owl was big up here, but I think most of those were bought out in 1989 by Supervalu.

Pretty sure there were no Piggly Wiggly's up here. I remember and used to shop with my Mom at red owl in Forest Lake when I was a kid.

    Re: Name the show.

Winn Dixie is a Florida thing, but they are in places North, just not many. They were founded in Jacksonville, and the founding family has paid a lot of money to my university to help build things (the college of business, the student commons building, etc.)

Admittedly, I couldn't get through the whole movie, but this scene was awesome.

GD, you would appreciate -- the only time I ever tried to watch it was in early 1992 on a TWA 747, going from San Juan to NYC to then have to connect to go to STL. (My only time in NYC, BTW, but could see WTC in the distance.) Our original L-1011 to STL had engine trouble and we got bumped. After all that hassle, "FGT" was not really the movie I was in the mood for...

Gary, speaking of L-1011s, I might have to go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_History_Museum

    Re: Name the show.

Piggly Wiggly is not too uncommon, but I couldn't tell you where one is. I know of one in South Carolina... Winn Dixie is mostly defunct, as most of them have gone out of business. The Local one had a total profit of negative $43K it's last year open, but actually stayed open for another eight months thereafter. Publix is particularly common, which has now spread to other southern states, I think as north as South Carolina (Which is a VERY Redneck state, I cite Spartanburg as evidence) and I think they may have stores as far west as Tennessee. It is an interesting place to work, because of the various unusual company policies, but they always gave a lot of employee benefits, very similar to Disney, so in hindsight, I could have done worse than I did working at either of these two employers at some point in my life. Another one, which is new and still growing is Sweet Bay, which is actually all around the country, but in other areas, they are called Food Lion. I miss up North, where we did not have a super market. Instead, I had a butcher shoppe, bakery, deli, etc and they were all independent from one another.
