    Re: 2011 Toyota Avalon

This "new" Avalon looks pretty much like a Hyundai that looks sorta like a Lexus that looks kinda like a Mercedes or BMW of a generation ago. This car does nothing for me, it will blend in well with the gazilliion other cars that look like it. I will continue to buy older cars that appeal to me.

    Re: 2011 Toyota Avalon

I've sat in various current generation Avalons, and I've always thought the same thing. "This is nice for a Toyota". Nothing that I'd drool over or buy, but nice enough I guess.

1992 Lincoln Town Car Cartier Edition (5/14- ?)
2014 Honda Accord LX MTX Sedan (1/14 -?)

    1992 Cadillac Sedan deVille (12/04-9/07)
    1999 Mercedes Benz S320 (8/07-7/09)
    2000 Buick Regal GS (7/09-4/12)

1991 Buick LeSabre Custom Sedan (9/12-6/13)

Lots of technology. Otherwise, undeniably Toyota.

I'd rather have a Lucerne Super than an Avalon, but I'd probably rather have an Avalon vs. a V6 Lucerne...

That's not enough to keep a car competitive though.

They're both completely unattractive blobules of car, so if forced to choose I'd take the Avalon as it's amenities blow the Lucerne out of the water.

On that note, I've yet to EVER see a Lucerne Super anywhere.

I agree. Between the two the Avalon blows the ultra-dated Lucerne out of the water in pretty much any area other than trunk space. The V-6 Avalon is rated for better mpg than either Lucerne engine yet it'll destroy either Northstar that the Lucerne offered since its inception. It's absolute win in comparison to a Lucerne.

But if I was buying a large car, neither of these two would be high on my list anyway. The new Ford, Chryslers, and Buick (LaCrosse) are much more my style.

    Re: 2011 Toyota Avalon

There are so many better cars on the market that offer equal comfort, better interiors, more appealing style, and better value than Avalon and Lucerne.

This car's purpose is to please loyal Toyota buyers who refuse to look at any other brands.

my old caddy gets me where I'm going comfortably. so does my old lesabre. both have 10x more style and are alot more comfortable than that japanese POS. If I'm paying 40k+ for a car, it better not blend in with every other car on the road. I want something that everyone will drool over as it rolls down the road.
IMO the passengers side of the avalon's dash looks nice (wood grain looks nice). the gauge cluster looks like the same one toyotas had for a long time (generic) and conflicts with the flow of the passengers side of the dash. both sides of the dash look like they're from seperate cars. I could design a better center console than that in my sleep- it looks like the touchscreen was a hastily slapped together afterthought. and the faux wood from the bottom of the entertainment stack to the console looks chintzy (this coming from a guy who has whole dashboards covered in fake wood and chrome and thinks massive analog clocks in the dash are cool)
the outside looks like most asian cars- they're a knockoff of another fancier asian car that is a blatant ripoff of a few european cars put in a blender together. (kinda like hyundai.) if I wanted a car that looked like a mismatch of parts from other manufacturers, I'd buy an AMC. now where'd I put my GM keys to my rambler? I need to go get a dart taillight for it.

I forgot all about the Lucerne Super. I do like the exterior...

Well, I think it's doing pretty well and serving a purpose.. If I wanted a new car that wasn't very expensive but got me around comfortably and quietly, the Avalon would be high on my list.

    So is Wonder Bread. :|

It sells well to the people who want it, but I can't say its even remotely interesting. At this point, we're talking about cars as commodities rather than objects of interest and desire.

I feel like I've stepped into a thread about plastic spoons.
