Any damage? And green like much safety glass is when shattered or green as in a Rolling Rock bottle?

I think it took a year off my life last year when a glass truck dropped a huge windshield right in front of me on the freeway when I was all boxed in and with a tailgater. But it shattered into small pieces the instant it hit the road and they didn't seem to bounce high because although it sounded like a shaken can full of rocks when going over them, I didn't have a single chip anywhere on the paint or windows.

No tickets were issued, which is bullshit. I'm trying to get a hold of the cop.

Oh great. A no fault claim that your insurance will treat like it is your fault.

    Prepare for terror.

The quote, for a 1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, in Cotillion White with gold pinstriping down the sides, taking off the trim, removing the window trim, side mirrors, etc, was about $7,000-15,000, depending on which crook, er, shop looked at it. Had I the money I woulda had the GM dealer do it. Bottom of the range and lifetime warranty. GIven I will be keeping her for eternity, that woulda been a DEAL.

Then again, I live in BOONDOCKS USA. Options are limited and inherently pricy. In a larger area, such as Phoenix, your odds of a less expensive shop are high.

You may as well hit the junk yards, you needs some doors and a fender. I wouldn't be surprised if the hinges are bent a bit, but thats what shims are for. It doesn't look so bad.

Heck, you can match the paint at Home Depot.

Uh oh. I remember seeing Earl Scheib TV commercials back in the '60s promising to paint any car for $29.95. So you're saying things have changed?

I even had a friend who was too cheap to pay $29.95 so he paid Earl Scheib $19 to just prime his car. It was an orange primer. To get it to shine, he'd wipe it down with kerosine (I think) every few days.

    Edit:

Damn. Looks like prices went up $20!

Even the cheapo $300 MACCO paint jobs aren't really $300 anymore. It's only that price if you bring them the car stripped and sanded/prepped. And they use cheap single stage.

A very good, honest shop will do a high end paint job for $6,000-8,000, assuming there's nothing more than a few dings on the car. If you want it blocked LAZER straight (straighter than the panels were from the factory), and wet sanded afterwards, you're in the $10,000-$12,000 range. Single color, no graphics of course.

The paint isn't the expensive part, it's the labor. If the prep work isn't done perfectly, the paint won't look good. And that takes lots of time.

Re: What did you do to your car today?

A witness came forward and called the PD.

I might be okay. I posted on CL (without identifying which vehicle I was) asking if anybody saw anything.

He said that he was sitting at the cross intersection and saw that the black wagon had the right of way when the van cut in front of him (that's me, obviously).

    I should be good.
