Contrary to popular belief, those 5.7 diesels are great engines when running on modern fuels. Poor fuel quality of the day and lack of a fuel/water separator - both wreaking havoc on the injector pump - was the root of most of the engine's problems. Not the architecture.

There are quite a few 30mpg claims on healthy running 5.7 big bodies to boot!
Sounds like a good postgrad r&d project...

I was wondering why they are a hard sell out here. You can pick them up for $1200 or so easy.

I saw a Diesel 79 Eldo (Base model) bring $6,600 at auction. It was Blue on Blue, super clean and low miles. Then comes my Pimp Daddy Cotillion White 1984 Biarritz Convertible with Red Leather, proper Cragar Wires, 80,000 miles and it goes for $7,200. That blue was the color of a Corpse.

I was in a super clean (but needed a new fender due to accident damage) white/ burgundy vinyl? interior diesel toro in the junkyard today (had flawless seats that were very uncomfortable). Not sure why someone would have wanted a diesel toro, but they ordered one.

Not perfect though. I don't think it is a diesel either. It has been for sale for about 6 months now.

Neither clean nor low miles. Not even running, that POS is a refugee from a wrecking yard.

Under normal acceleration, it feels like a 307. It's only under heavy throttle that it really shows how slow it is.

Like my father used to say: When you step down on the HT you get a squish instead of a swish.
