Re: What did you do to your car today?

the back infinity speakers were in and sounded great but of course the total sound was lacking since it was only coming from behind the seats. last night i finally took the door apart, pulled the speaker/amp/enclosure combo out and started to try to copy it. The reason im copying and not just usint the existing is because the infinity's will not fit in the factory enclosures. the factory i believe are either 4.25 or 5.25 and the kappas are 6.5 and a 1 inch tweeter PLUS a crossover that takes up alot of space.
the only important parts are the mounting points and overall depth. so i traced the outline over some MDF, marked the mounting points and decided to trim alot of fat.

Here are the original tracings, my revised lines, and speaker placement lines. You'll notice a shaded area with a question mark. The mounting points on that end mount to a heavy bracket, the bracket mounts to the door skin, the door panel mounts to the bracket. Theres alot going on around that bracket so i didnt know if my original cut idea would work. it would have required a tiny bit more work, and would have made the box more irregular so i didnt bother with it at first. once i made the first cuts and test fit i quickly realized that notch NEEDED to be cut out.

so yea, cut it out, cut the holes for the speaker, and for the tweeter, test fit, etc.
heres the close to final product

and the rear side with the crossover not mounted yet

the material is much thicker than the mounting points on the plastic enclosure so im debating between bolt extenders long enough to just use this one plate, or, two plates to create an actual box and use a bit to drill a "recess" into the mdf deep enough to use the existing bolts...

    the project continues tonight

    ???

documentation said its best to keep it as close to the woofer as possible

where do you recommentd? its an allante let me see if i can get you a pic of the door and interior. if you installed $4000+ speakers im going to assume you know a thing or 4 about acoustics, and you'll now be harrassed by my many questions pertaining to my audio install

this isnt my car but its a picture of an allante interior

heres a look at the driver side

im also thinking that no matter how carefully i consider speaker placement, it will all be for nothing once the top comes down, so my main goal is sound good with the top up or hardtop on, and be audible with the top down at up to 70mph

You gotta get out of the city Gary. I paid 4.179 this morning. And the place I go to is higher than most out here.

    This was in the suburbs

Though I have noticed the gap between downtown and suburb prices has gotten a little smaller.
