Correct - I had a 1953 TD. The rear suspension in those cars was so sloppy that, if you tried to peel, the whole axle simply hopped up and down and slammed into the body bumper, then pavement, and so on............and the brakes (drum) were nowhere near as controlled and balanced as today's. Clutches weren't so hot, either. We used 1930's Ford V-8 60 clutch plates.

HD shocks ?? Nope - the shocks were hydraulic affairs hard mounted to the body and connected to the suspension by rubber bushed arms. We even tried AirLift bags with no success.......

My first car was a '51 Morris Minor drophead coupe. 53 rompin' stompin' flathead 4 horsepower.

Enter the MG TD that would do burnouts as well as eat alive many other cars of the day: We built a mid-30's V-8 60 completely Edelbrock with trip deuces. Fabricated an adapter plate for an Austin truck 4-speed and rear end. Cut the driveshaft. Stuffed it all into a TD with no lumps, bumps, or bulges. That summitch would scream.

Bet it wasn't only the "car" that screamed when you came to a corner after the initial dramatic improvement in acceleration!!! Morgan did the V-8 trick about a decade later with some scarry success on the SCCA tracks!

Drove Sabrina to Portland and left her in the Red Economy Lot at PDX, where she'll stay until Monday night while I'm at my niece's graduation in North Dakota. Will get to drive Cruella back to my sister's from Grand Forks tomorrow night so her local mechanic can replace the turn signal cam and Twilight Sentinel switch on Friday.

They come out every 13 years to mate. Just generally annoying pests.

We have the 17 year variety around here - some of those critters are 2.5" long and will do a number on your front bumper and bug screen. During a sizeable outbreak the sawing cricket-like noise they make will keep you awake at night.............A common nickname is "13 (or 17) year locust", but they're not locusts (huge grasshoppers).

I wonder if a cicada had a station wagon, if that would speed up the frequency of it efforts at procreation?

Last time around here in Chicago, they came back for a second season. That has never happened before. I had just about gotten those damn carcasses out of all the crevices in my car when they started up again.

Last time we got them was 2007 I think. Nothing more annoying than having dried up cicada wings/bodies/etc being tracked into your car. Or even getting the straggler that decides to fly right into your car.

remember having to drive with your windows up all summer? and making that mad dash into your car before said stragglers could swarm you?
