Re: What did you do to your car today?

My Cadillac is a 1999 Eldorado ETC. Didn't drive it today because it was raining so in the garage it went.
I have a Rotary 4 post lift so on to it I parked it and decided to continue my quest to slow the oil leaks.
I tightened the pan bolts (again) and installed a new oil pressure sending unit switch.
2 hour and 20 minute job including a simple oil change.
I have good tools, a lift and my garage is air conditioned, but I'm not a mechanic, just a hobbyist.
No room to get hands in there and engine was still a little warm. Let the dealer do it is my advice to anyone who will listen.
Hopefully that was a big contributor to my oily undercarriage. I'm not yanking the engine on this one for a few drips on the garage floor.
Next week I'll tackle the front strut mounts and maybe later figure out my hi speed surge the engine developed.
Still love the car despite the fact it's mechanically challenging at times. I own 5 other rides so it really gets very little use.
My ETC is a great "go to the donut shop, run to the post office" car. Only leaves the garage in nice weather

FWIW If it's a sheet metal pan, it may be leaking because they were overtightened at some point warping the pan lip.

Thanks guys. For now I'm going to leave the car the way it is but I will eventually get the turbine DTS wheels for it when these tires wear out.

The later '06+ DTS had the taller headlights. I really enjoy those cars too.

It's a big 7.5 qt. Cast aluminum sump. Not warped to best of my knowledge but seals and gaskets are probably getting long in the tooth.

Northstar engines, especially the pre-2000 N*'s, leak and they leak badly. It is the gaskets! However, there is another theory that this is an option on our cars to prevent rust!

If you have further questions, go to this subsection of the forum and post there:

    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ldorado-forum/

I believe there are hundreds of threads about leaky N* in that section.

If I want to summarize the whole discussions from day one up to now, I should say you will be better of at the end if you keep adding oil rather than trying to fix the leak. (Unless the leak is too bad)

And by the way, hello and welcome!

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Welp I must be doing something right. A guy called in for a fan on a Grand Marquis. Told him we had an electric one, no mechanical like he thought was factory installed.

Guy called back, asked for me Decided he would come down (from 30 min out of town) to check on what we had.

Showed up bout a half hour later, and had me look at his fan with him. Lastly he asked if I made commision on sales

    Not bad for a greenhorn

Thanks for all the support guys! I appreciate it

Risked Ultraviolet exposure in the name of my car. Time for new Batteries in the Cadillac. 140 pounds each actually makes them a tiny bit smaller than last time. Thankfully, these ones actually have handles. Just have two new ones for the moment. Will possibly have another new one within the year. Have to finish checking all of the presently-used batteries.
