Drove Betty 400+ miles from
Independence, OR to Pullman, WA. Although now that I'm getting about 15 MPG with the A/C @ 70 MPH, which means a range of almost 300 miles, I filled up three times, The Dalles, OR, Kennewick, WA and Lewiston, ID. Gas is currently cheaper in Oregon and Idaho than Washington, so the stop in The Dalles was more like topping it off. From Kennewick to Pullman to Lewiston was 190 miles, so I was a bit below half.
Betty ran like a champ the entire way, although with just three small vents, lots of glass (fortunately tinted) and temperatures in the 90s once I reached eastern Oregon, the A/C was a bit over-matched. And the first 30-40 miles of WA26 east of US 395 is like a washboard that even Chevrolet's Jet Smooth Ride couldn't conquer (although I can't imagine how nasty it would be in a car that already had a stiff ride).
Did the Friday night cruise in downtown Lewiston. The pro was there were some very nice cars, including several four doors such as a spectacular white-over-red '57 Bel Air four-door hardtop. Chatted a bit with the its owner. The con was unlike in past years, this was not policed and a number of idiots were doing burnouts and over-revving and other reckless stunts on narrow streets with a lot of pedestrians. It got obnoxious after a while, so after a few loops and checking out cars we liked, we headed back to Pullman.
What's funny is multiple times I could hear spectators call out, "Look at the dog!" Hoover got lots of attention and compliments. However, because it's going to be in the upper 90s tomorrow, I don't think I'm going to take him to the show tomorrow. It's just too hot for him.
Vincent, it was very nice meeting you and seeing your beautiful Eldorado. Hope you get the A/C issue resolved soon.
