Re: What did you do to your car today?

Well apparently it's that time of year for the car to act up again. It went 1 whole year without needing any mechanical/accessory attention so I guess I cannot complain. The a/c is no longer cooling, but the compressor is still engaging. Car is at my local Cadillac dealership right now pending an analysis as to why this is happening again. Hopefully I can leave the dealership without getting penetrated but knowing this car I should go ahead and lube up right now...

Unstuck a jammed lock on the rear passenger door of Sabrina (still have to figure out how to reconnect the plunger; what looks like the clip on the lock mechanism and the rod under the plunger are 90º from each other. Also discovered there must be an electrical drain somewhere on Betty. Put in a new battery Saturday and drove the car a good deal. Went to start her yesterday, and the battery is completely dead. Put it on the charger for a couple of hours and she started right up.

Those are solid motors. It's the 'heavy duty version of the FI 302's. The upper intakes on those are desirable items for the crown vic hot rodders, and I think it comes with the good E7 heads but I could be wrong...

Any ford with 8 cylinders is worth getting into.

Used an 80cc medical syringe and a foot of rubber tubing screwed onto the needle adapter - sucked the power steering reservoir dry and refilled it. Fluid that came out was sort of clear amber. Fluid that went in is clear, very little color.

Did the same sort of operation with the coolant reservoir - except used a siphon - a couple of weeks ago. Twice a year the engine gets 2 quarts of fresh 60/40 coolant mix.

Ford gave the Explorer the block from the F-150 and the intake and heads from the '95 Mustang.

I looked at the truck yesterday and drove it before I made him the offer. The motor is smooth and quiet, still has full power and only 149k. Trans is smooth and responsive. Just a 2wd, but I don't need 4x4 anyway. It's been wrecked in the front end and fixed, but for the price and as well as the truck runs it's hard to beat.

You're gonna have to wait until Tuesday PM......Think huge vaccine syringe.

On the road in an hour for Norfolk and a NOAA marine charting seminar this weekend.

You can accomplish the same thing with a turkey baster and hose or any other sort of bulb/syringe device - old, old school.

Heck, even this vacuum pump, rigged to an intermediate catch can, would work famously...............

Siphon - That physical phenomena which causes a liquid to seek the lowest level of two containers connected by hose - the high flows to the low. You remove the coolant reservoir cap - fish a long length of tube down to the lowest level of the tank, out and over the fender to a pail on the ground. Apply vacuum to the lower end of the tube with your mouth: suck it. Spit out the inevitable slug of poisonous coolant - liquid then flows from the reservoir to the pail. Replace the same amount drained when the siphon airbinds.
