I am afraid I have to agree with Ben.Gators, the leather one looks better. I don't get the current fad for Alcantara (or synthetic suede). I can see a grabby material for the seat centers, but for decoration I don't think it adds anything and apparently will not wear as well as leather or good quality synthetic leather. Guess it's just a "fashion" thing!

I like the leather one better. the metal e brake cover on the new one is nice, but the color and stitching just dont match the interior.

I bought the handbrake since it matches my shift knob/boot which is also covered in alcantara w/ white stitching, plus I love how it feels

Alcantara wheels feel awesome, but after awhile the oils from your hands break down the material and it just looks like crap. I wanted to get one, but after seeing some used examples I decided to pass on it.

What the hell is Alcantara anyway? Some sort of synthetic fabric or what?

Cleaned out the wagon today to prep for Daytona. Gotta wash it tomorrow, it's covered in f*cking pollen. Gross.

Alacantara is a synthetic suede that seems to be a fad started by the interior designers of Italian exotics and now has become available to the masses. The reports I have read about Alcantara indicate the the material id inferior to either vinyl or real leather seating and upholstery materials. It seems Alacantara, while initial present a luxurious impression does not stand up to contact quickly deteriorating from contamination (as in the case of hand and body oils) and abrasion caused by contact with stronger materials. It would also seem likely that contrasting stitching to stitching would also be vulnerable to discoloration and wear.

This is why that stuff is better for non-contact surfaces like headliners and handbrake boots than it is for steering wheels and seats.

Incorrect. If it's synthetic, it has the ability to wear well, depending on the quality of materials.

Got the Tbird washed and vacuumed out today, plus everything armor-alled up. Now I have to wait for the Progressive rep to come out tomorrow and look at the bumper so I can have it fixed.

Re: What did you do to your car today?

armor all is some nasty shit. my safari van was armor all-ed profusely before I got it. the idiot used armor all on everything. the gauge cluster, steering wheel, dash, doors. everything felt slick and greasy and theres dirt trapped under it that doesnt come out. not to mention it made the dash super shiny which refracts off the windshield blocking part of my vision. the steering wheel was slick (I wiped it down to get some of it off since the wheel was slick as a greased pig. the gauges have an oil slick look to them so I cant see them when the sun hits them.
