Went to the junkyard again today to get seats for my stepsister's Honda. Ran into a guy who ran up to me as I got out of my car and started up a Saab chat that lasted for 20 or so minutes. It is, so far, the shortest conversation I've had with an enthusiastic Saab owner. I think the longest one was four hours. I gave him my mechanic's contact info.

The longest traveled went to a couple from Alberta Canada and as a complete surprise to me, I won the Plant Managers Choice.

What a great event! The Corvette community welcomed us with open arms. They even brought out folks from the design team and plant that worked on our cars for some detailed seminars. One of the engineers went so far as to come outside to our cars, pulled out his tools, and fixed some cars that had some irritating issues our dealerships hadn't been able to fix.

JimmyH, your nickname for my car is now permanent! Everybody loved the significance of calling it "Elwood".

I started to fix my "curled" dashpad, after gluing and clamping for a long time, the dashpad is in acceptable condition. I installed it back, and guess what, AC blower is not working! Itt seems that I did something to it.... Dropped something inside the fan and fried the motor? maybe!

Drove home from my friends' house in Silverdale, WA, 232 miles from when I had filled up yesterday in Bremerton and stopped just off I-5 in Salem to fill her up. Got 16.16 MPG on the return drive, mostly driving 70 MPH or so. Had rain off and one from Silverdale to Olympia, then some around Kelso and occasional sprinkles the rest of the way. Only in the 60s, so I just had the kick panel vent open. Had gotten a little over 15 MPG on the drive up, which was pretty good considering all the stop-and-go traffic I encountered in Portland and through Olympia and Tacoma. And I was running the A/C on Friday. Betty ran flawlessly the entire way.

Impressive. What kind of economy were you getting with the previous transmission?

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Cadillac was out of gas so I drove my truck to work today. On the way home at 11:30pm I came up on a very clean late 80's/early 90's 2 door Nissan Sentra, very boxy. Was some Asian kid driving it, had a loud muffler(not too obnoxious though). I'm thinking this thing might have been worked over, the clean, stock looking imports are usually the fast ones.

Once again I was in my truck(93 Toyota, 5 speed 2wd)he driving down the interstate. I shift down to 3rd and give him "the look" He's game and floors it at about 60mph. Well his Sentra was definitely stock lol, we were both in a dead heat until I backed off at 90mph. Did another run, he started pulling on me at about 90mph very slowly, I then backed off again. 3rd run was the same result. I might have done a little better if I had the windows up. I laughed like a school girl and got off my exit, both of our rigs are so freaking slow. The almighty 22RE did pretty good, all 110hp. I might have fared better from a dig, the 22RE is all torque and runs out of breath by 70mph.

I've only backed off of a race once, and it was because of the 112mph limiter. Haha. I am so irresponsible...

With the Powerglide, I think the best I could get on the highway was ~13 MPG. The THM700R4 drops highway RPMs down by about 1,000. Looks like I lose ~ 1 MPG with the A/C. A perfectly reasonable trade-off.

Having the 4-speed automatic overdrive has less of an impact when driving in town. With the Powerglide, I would get 10-12 MPG, and now I'm getting 12-13. But considering Betty was designed and built in a time when gas mileage wasn't a priority (and if it was, there was a six or 283 V8), it's still perfectly respectable.

I'm going in for an oil change today, and I am going to completely detail my car myself. (I used to detail cars for a limousine company in Los Angeles. Awesome job when people didn't barf in them.) It is a great skill to know.

Experimenting with some black 3/4" hex lug nuts set against the chrome wheels with black rotors and calipers.

#1- you suck. (I am also slightly concerned that you own a minivan...) lol #2- I wonder how fast it would get to without the limiter... 150 seems like a pretty strong candidate to me, provided the proper conditions. Though it would be terrifying driving my yacht 150mph. Haha

Didn't the pre- 2004 DTS series have an H - 130 mph - limiter setting ???........and therefore came with H tires ? .........never heard of a Z rated DTS.

I doubt seriously that a Deville (base) would ever make it to 150 - too much car, too little power, too much drag.

an indicated 140. I would bet the actual speed was much lower. Not that we condone such talk here
