Eastern Rat Snake - we have bunches of them - non poisonous constrictor. They range in size from just under 10 inches to over 8 feet. Good critters, they keep the bug and rodent populations down. Right now - April - they're coming out of hibernation and you'll find them sprawled out on holly tree branches about 8 - 10 feet up, soaking up the sun. Had a 6-footer in the garage last fall. One lives near Karen's compost piles - she calls it "Ralph".

snakes aren't GREAT pets.. They have no emotion. How can you trust a snake, when they show no signs of aggressiveness unless it's a coil up before they strike. They can be very dangerous if you don't know how to handle them. It's not like you can train them or anything.. They are fascinating however

My Friend down in Austin has a Boa and well if you can't train a snake then i don't know what they did to it but
the Child who is 2 plays with him has him out every day just chilling they lay in the sun and just hang out by the pool they trust the snake more then a baby sitter with that kid now no that does not mean they substitue the snake for a baby sitter they are not dumb lol

Reptiles are neat but I dont see how a person could bond with one. Animals like that seem more like show pieces, possessions, etc...

    LOL. That he does.

Occasionally he challenges the softness of my carpet as well:

He wants hardwood (no homo) back there. I tend to agree with his assessment.
