The Suburban has found a new home. I remembered my mechanic has a really rusted out '89 Suburban. He will take mine in exchange for his after I pull out everything I want. I'm glad cause this one was too nice to send to the scrap yard. Another friend which does body work will graft the cowl section of the hood onto my Olds. The car will be much more fun now. Can't wait till it's done.

Awesome. Should be fun to see when done.

What kind of parts does that 383 have on it?

Glad it will live on in one form or another. Two vehicles get a new lease on life.

Don't have the paperwork in front of me but it's a fairly mild (street) motor. It's got 10:1 compression, 882 casting heads with 2.02 valves ported/polished as is the Performer RPM intake, 4 bolt main with steel 400 crank. Cam has a .480 lift but that is all I know about it. Has a mini hi torque starter. Carb is a Holley 650. It's got billet pullies and electric fans. Idle is lumpy, you can definately feel and hear the cam when idling (shakes the whole truck, I like that). The trans is the 700r4 with Corvette valve body and 2500 rpm stall. The motor really comes alive past 3000 rpm's so I will need to install at least a 3.73 rear in the Cutlass.

The Cutlass now has a 330 which is probably the best small block Olds motor ever made. Has a steel crank, ultra high compression and probably the best breathing Olds heads made. A 403 with 330 heads would almost double in power (with some machine work). The 330 is a screamer, it is the basis for most big power Olds small block motors but it is costly to build up. A Chevy motor on the other hand is the easiest and least expensive motor to build up. I like the vast parts selection and availability for small Chevy motors. Changing out an Olds motor for a Chevy is a sin. Oldmophiles will hate me for it but it's my car and I'll do what I want.

Good luck with the build man!!! So what is happening to the Suburban exactly? Is it getting a different motor/trans from your mechanic??? That thing was really nice, hell if it were a pickup like I've been looking for I would've given you $3500 for it.

Honestly, I'm probably the only Olds nut who DOESN'T think that's a sin. I love the bowtie AND the rocket equally (okay, maybe I lean a small bit toward the bowtie..) and I think the build is going to be cool.

My mechanic friend has a rusty POS '89 Suburban. He just rebuilt the TBI motor maybe a year ago as well as the tranny. His 'burb is rotting away big time (northern truck) so he will put his motor/trans into my '84. He will pull the motor/trans and other parts off the '84 for no charge and will give me his '89 to scrap in place of this '84. Works out great cause I don't think I could bring myself to scrap this old Surburban.

Re: Gonna "Chev" the '67 Olds. Sacrilege!

***UPDATE*** So far so good. Motors and transmissions have been pulled out of both cars. I have decided to paint the Cutlass before installing the new motor/trans in it. The car will be "Dark Shadow Gray Metallic". Same color as my former '04 Mach 1. A more subdued color than the bright red on it now and more my style. I definately like non colored cars (white-black and everything in between) and the '04 Mach 1 I had was amongst my favorite colors.

When the car comes back from the paint shop it will come back to me for the motor install. I'll get everything almost ready to run and then take it to the exhaust shop for a dual exhaust and x-pipe. After that it will come back home and I'll get it running. Shortly afterwards it will receive a suspension/brake and interior makeover. This will be fun (and costly)!

I really did "sell out" by putting a Chevy in it. Most "olds" forums will boot you out for doing such a thing. I bought some extra parts from an Olds guy the other day. I told him I try to buy extra parts for the car whenever they come along for spares. Anyway I told him I was in the middle of an engine swap and getting the car painted. He asks what motor I'm putting in. At first he assumed a 455, I said no. He asks again. I asked him what the worse possible scenario would be. He immediately says "small block Chevy"..........BINGO.

Why do the Olds guys freak out over transplanting a SBC?

^It's like a big slap in the face to them. I'm not sure why.
