Then this "thing" pulled in and everyone went silent. It's a Diablo VT, so I'd guess 1997-99... There's usually atleast one Lamborghini at this show, last month it was that 1985 Jalpa, now this.

    Mondial.

I had forgotten these were four seaters.

BB512. The predecessor to the Testarossa.

R8 V10 Convertible. First convert' I've seen in person.

1964 Ferrari Type 250 GT. God only knows what this is worth.

Re: Cars and Coffee. Minneapolis's most exclusive monthly car show.

Early '90s Audi V8 Quattro. One of the very few Audi/VW products I actually like from this era.

Euro-spec 1981 M-B 500SEC. Owner stated that it was 325hp (DIN) in 1981, but the SEC's we got in '81 were the ~150hp 380SEC's. Weak.

E30 318i. These are very small in real life.

I think Rick stopped by for a cameo appearance.

    And there was this..

And this.. Say what you want about how good of a driver it was, I won't argue that, but man oh man is it homely looking.

    Then the Z8 showed up.

    Love the license plates.

    V10 R8

Then someone from a dealer brought down an '07 Phantom. This thing is HUUUUUUGE! Makes a 94-96 FWB seem small, or that Mark V I drove earlier.

Knowing these cars and the typical owners of them, I'd bet the car needs $10,000 in suspension work - ball joints, shocks, springs - these cars are so tremendously heavy and the suspensions do wear out in time, and are expensive any way you slice it, and without the work done the cars will drive as this owner described. Very few owners of 20 year old RR's can afford to maintain the cars properly, despite the fact that they can somehow afford to buy the car in the first place. Chad, you should drive a good RR that someone has spent some blood, sweat, tears, and a ton of $$$ to maintain correctly and you'd have an appreciation for how great a good RR can be.

I approve of the bucket seats on the 63 Eldo. The same wood treatment is also used on the Fleetwood sedans.

Chad, that red Corvette is either a '56 or '57. It got quad headlights in '58.

Re: Cars and Coffee. Minneapolis's most exclusive monthly car show.

Thanks, Chad, for capturing two of my very favorite Ferraris in one frame. The black "Lusso" Berlinetta coupe and the 250 GT Berlinetta coupe (next to and behind the Lusso). Many have describe the Lusso as the most beautiful Ferrari ever made. The 250 GT was the forunner of the ultra famous "GTO" cars and was very popular and succcessful on the SCCA club circuit in the very early sixties. My first experince seeing and hearing a Ferrari in its' element was a couple of 250 GTs racing at the SCCA races at the old Cumberland, MD airport track in 1962. The wail of those small bore V-12s was un mistakable and the way they held the road was very impresseive for that day!

I've just never been into the cars Lamborghini produced after the Miura. The Countach was a rather useless bit of automotive fluff. And the mid-engined V-8 Ferraris of the eighties were really not all that interesting. I had several friends and acquaitences that had 308s and their successors all of which were very popular with the Hollywood set in the eighties (along with "Members Only" jackets and press creased Levis). Ferrrari made some very nice V-12Gran Turismo automobiles in the 1970's and '80s but the copycat hacks at the car publications always paid little attention prefering to wet their pants over the Ferraris for boys , not the cars for men!. I noticed you got a shot of an eighties Ferrari "Mondial" four place convertible, which, by the way, holds the distinction of being the least liked Ferrari of all time (and also the cheapest to buy)!

I also agree with Bro-ham's insight into the condition of many "collector" Rolls-Royces. Although I woul add, having driving many a "new" Rolls-Royce, that they were really driver's cars to begin with!

Thanks again, for sharing pictures from Minneapolis's very impressive monthly car show.

Orr, it's true, there's nothing more fabulous than driving a really good older RR. The junky ones are a dime a dozen. The close up picture of the tarnished hood ornament on that black RR tells the story: it has tarnish over the tarnish.

Man, a 2.5L V-12. I can't imagine how small those pistons are, and the valves must make those of the 1.7L Honda Civic SI's look gigantic by comparison!

Chad, are you sure that's not a replica??? There are several things WAY off on the interior of that Diablo. Notice the aftermarket pedals and steering wheel. The shifter is all wrong, they came with a metal gate shifter, no boot, and the knob is aftermarket. The center stack controls looks wrong too, usually the climate control is above the radio. Gauges are all off, they don't look factory. Door panels are off as well, the factory trimmed the speakers out a lot nicer than that, those just look hacked in there. Also notice the turn signal lever, its one of those GM multifunction stalks.

I agree with Aaron, doesn't look right! Are they knocking off Lambos now too? Seems kinda of a waste seeing that could used ones aren't all that expensive.

Re: Cars and Coffee. Minneapolis's most exclusive monthly car show.

There were a lot of sixties vintage V-12 Ferraris that used to come into Frank Monise's foreign and race car shop in Pasadena (where I would hangout when I was home from overseas) back in the late sixties and early 1970's and I got drive many of the road cars. To be honest they were pretty crude despite their lovelly looking coachwork. Compared to my '65 Lamborghini 350 GT they were really rather unsophisticated "hotrods." But they were beautiful to look at and to listen too. Having know these cars in various iterations I have to say it is no wonder that so many Ferraris ended up having so little accumulated miles even as they got quite a bit older. Aston Martins were another frequent visitor to Frank's shop and I drove several DB4-DB7s. Again I thought the Astons (which had been my favorite car till the Lambos and late '60s Maseratis came out) were also highly over rated. However, the Astons had it all over the Ferraris when it came to fit and finish and quality interiors .... even thought both makes bodies were made in Italy. The Maserati Ghibli was a great looking car, but I found them rather ungainly to drive, even with power steering which the later ones had.

Wow, a Yugo! I haven't seen one of those in donkeys years. I thought they'd all dissolved back to their base elements decades ago. Rusted worse than late-50s Chryslers, they did.
