I also like how BMW kept its traditional styling on its current 3 series models. Looking at Elias's E39 then Gary's E90, you can tell neither has been bastardized by the stylist Bangle.

IMO the current E90 3 series sedan is more of a spiritual sucessor to the legendary E39 5 series. The current 5 has gotten really fat in its latest version, the E90 and E39 are more closely proportioned in size, handling dynamics, and in uncluttered interior design. Plus the 335i twin turbo six provides just as much, probably more thrust than the old 540i v8. Both the E39 M5 and E90 M3 use big naturally aspirated V8's and manual trannies, plus you can get the current M3 in a sedan now.
AWD wasn't an option on the 5 series till the e60 came out. Mine does ok with the winter tires & some weight in the cargo area. I am going to sell it this spring and go for a SUV... time to lift instead of lower!

Currently without a winter car, but not a problem since I live downtown. I'd like to pick up a cheap e30 later in the year though.

    E39 is looking good

Snowplow trains are always good. there are also the Wedge variations, but I never liked them as much, because they are not as cool looking (And never nearly as rusty) and besides, they are hardly as entertaining when they hit a goat. There were at two Hearses up north that were used as snow plows, making at least four in the country that I am aware of. Interestingly, two of which were adorned with Holiday lights. Naturally, those were the Un-Pennsylvanian ones.
