The 5 MPH bumper was a Federal requirement started in the '70's. It has long since been rescinded.
Modern cars can not withstand a 5 mph impact without damage.

Its still in place. Its not about vehicle damage. Its for not damaging any of the safety or fuel systems below 5 mph.
Not long ago the Canadian government lowered its bumper standards to match the 5 mph of the U.S.. Ours was 10 kph witch is like 6.2 mph. Even at the 10 kph regulation it did not prevent many American cars from being sold or imported here because they met or exceeded 10 kph. The newer GTO was not allowed to be sold or imported until the regulation was lowered.

Man pictures DO NOT do Rebecca justice. I highly doubt there is a nicer CDV of any vintage out there!

Re: Candid pictures of our cars.

Tell me about it. I don't normally like that colour, but it works very well on many of the bigger cars of the era, with no exception to this body style of Cadillac. In the early days of my youth, my parents nearly purchased a '77 Coupe DeVille while on a trip to Florida. It was in fact the same colour as Craig's.

Since then, I have only ever seen two in that colour.

I am proud to say I got to drive one of the two. Not because it is any rarity for me to drive such cars (I have driven 1,000's of cars in my life. I can count all of the "modern" ones on my fingers), but because I understood that the car was more than just a fine antique, but the owner's highly prized possession of which I was privileged to experience. I actually found an immaculate 77 Coupe (black, naturally) for sale locally in showroom shape. It sold by the time I had inquired.

Though browsing Craigslist regularly has brought me to two separate matching DeVilles (A Sedan and a Coupe) of that vintage, both in that seafoam, toothpastey green with dark green tops. If I had the space to park them, I would buy them both, even if just to see two such...unique...Cadillacs parked beside one another

In retrospect, Craig has probably never driven a Hearse and I know he has never driven any 500-CID-Powered Cadillac. I daresay, I hope to remedy both of these at once, next time we meet.

(Sting of course, also has a reserved position to drive my Cadillac post engine swap)

Of all of my cars, few people have ever (or would ever have) been given permission to drive it...sometimes to even sit in it. The truck, both Expeditions, the Pontiac, the Lincoln, sure, any time. The Oldsmobile I drive in Nevada has actually been driven more by others than it has by me. However, when it comes to the Cadillac, I can count everyone who has driven it in my ownership (myself included) on one hand. The Pontiac may be in far "nicer" shape post resurrection, the Oldsmobile may be a well-maintained, low-mile classic, the Expeditions may be new, the Lincoln may have been a better example of [traditional] Luxury (due to having...well, more seats) and the Cadillac may merely be an obnoxious beast with a few rust spots and tiring paint...but it is special. And it is MY obnoxious beast.

I have paid for, invested in, insured, taken care of or even restored the others and all paperwork signifies I am the owner of them, but at the end of the day, I am merely in the presence of my other cars and could part with any of them with ease (Though hopefully in more peaceful terms than the Lincoln) having already experienced them and kept many fond memories to recount later in life...

...But my Cadillac is truly my own.

I always like to park next to other Cadillacs when I have the opportunity

This Coupe may belong in the derelicts thread. It has been sitting here a while. According to the placard, it has the diesel engine.

I decided to get a roof profile comparison shot while I was there.

Call me crazy, but I prefer the 80+ rear roofline. It's more formal and "Cadillac appropriate".
