It had to be under rated because of insurance reasons, so they simply picked a random point on the RPM band and said that's where its max power was.

Can you prove any of that? 8800 rpm is a no-bullshit zone regardless of what engine it applies to.

Re: Candid pictures of our cars.

^I assumed it was common knowledge that the Z/28 is almost always underrated. Look at the '98 LS1, which produced even more power then the LS1 Corvette, but it was advertised at lesser power so they wouldn't compete with each other.

^Just like the GN in the 80s, they raped every Corvette at the time, but had less power on paper

The only engines I know of that rev to 9,000 are the Rotaries and the crotch rockets.

Right, it's a well known fact that the '69 Z28's were under rated by the factory. They were rated 290, but then again, the AAR Cuda, Challenger TA and Boss 302 were all rated right around there also, which is the area you had to be in to qualify for that Trans Am series. Different sources say that the Z/28 actually put out between 350 and 400hp.

They did a show on Musclecar a while back (Sat and Sun morning on Spike) where they dynoed stock muscle car engines from the 60's and 70's. The Hemi they tested was only rated at like 400 hp and it wound up pushing out close to 700.

Re: Candid pictures of our cars.

I'd heard they were under rated as well, but more to the tune of 475-500 (gross).

Re: Candid pictures of our cars.

Its gone, that's all there is, there ain't no mo. I sold it late yesterday, it had to go. I want to keep the Brougham as a weekend cruiser/show car and get me a nice daily driver where everything works, especially the A/C. So now the search begins. I have my eye on a nice DeVille up in Rockford that I might go have a look at tomorrow. My grandparents are getting ready to buy a new car so I offered to buy theirs, but we will see what happens.

The sticker is my America kicks ass symbol. The picture is at an awkward angle but I had to get low to stop the sun glare.

I'll sell you a nice S-Class with fully working COLD A/C. I can't think of a better car to compliment your Brougham!
