I went to the peace gardens as well, many years ago when we went to visit the Air Force side of my family when they were in Minot, ND. It is a nice place.

Gary, at the meet you are taking pics of my car so I can have some show case pictures of my baby!

All my pictures look like utter trash compared to yours. Would you mind snapping a few for me at the meet?

Holy hell dude, my aunt has the same camper! Does yours have bunks in the back? Hers has a full width bathroom in the back and a dining table right where the bunk windows are in yours. Also, the front of hers is bigger with a queen size bed up there. It sits towards the middle of the truck and the hitch does not extend out as far. Other than that, same camper, but its pulled by a crummy old Ford.

Yep it has bunks in the back. Over the 5th wheel is a queen bed. That thing is 7000 LBS dry. It tows nice and easy behind my 1 ton (454, turbo 400 and 4.10 gears) Trailer is 25 feet of liveable space, it is actually about 28 feet long. The truck and the trailer come in at about 47 feet.

The bathroom is behind the door with the mirror. It is sized just right.

The queen bed is behind he closed fan fold door.

Re: Candid pictures of our cars.

Okay, hers is a different layout and is bigger. The couch sits lengthwise, has three cushions instead of tow and there is a nice large entryway. There is no divider wall between the front bed and the rest, it is just open. Right where your stairs are she has a very large storage cabinet with a large, built in stereo. She doesn't have kids so she only needed it for 2 people at the most, although the couch and the table become 1 person and 2 person beds, respectfully. There is a small shower in her bathroom as well. All the cabinets look exactly the same though.

Everyone in my family owns or used to own a camper. My grandparents have a 38' monster trailer with a slideout that goes out a full 5 feet, not the little 2 feet ones they have nowadays. That thing weighs almost 15k lbs dry and has a 100 gallon fresh water tank, a 75 gallon gray tank and a 25 gallon black tank. That thing is nice for long trips, its literally a home away from home.

They used to tow it with a 1989 F-250 with a 7.3L International Harvester Diesel. That thing was powerful but slow. In first gear you could pop the clutch with the engine at about 2000 rpm and it would bring the front tires off the ground, no lies. However, it couldn't pull the damn thing up a hill at more than 30 mph to save its life. He used to play a game where about 1 mile from a large hill he would floor it. We would hit the hill doing 85 or so and by the top we would be down to 40.

A few years ago my grandpa finally put a dent in their retirement fund and ponied up for a new truck, a 2002 Chevy 2500 with a Duramax, loaded to the hilt. My grandfather had cancer so they haven't used the trailer in about 5 years because he was always feeling ill from the chemo. It just sat in the pole barn. He passed away back in January so now we are trying to sell it, but as you can imagine there are few takers. I have convinced my grandmother to keep the truck for now because I use it to haul stuff around, mainly other cars or tractors because there is a flatbed trailer out there as well and the truck can pull a car like there is nothing behind it. That sucker even outran a friend's '02 Impala from 20 to about 125.

The 7.3 (or as they call it on the commercial side, the 444) is a tank. SO much better than that piece of garbage 6.0 Powerstroke they used from '03 to '06.5. The 7.3 in the '89s were not turbocharged, which is probably why it feels so slow. They're rated at 180hp and 345 lb/ft of torque. According to the book I have, they didn't acquire the turbocharger until 1994, then direct injection in 1994.5.

In 1989, was the 454 used in the 2500s and 3500s TBI or still 4bbl? I wanna say that the 454 went to TBI in '87 or '88, but I'm not positive on that. Either way, what a beast! I drove a '95 Sierra K2500 with the 454 TBI last year and was thoroughly impressed with that engine. So. Much. Torque....! It would spin the inside rear tire (3.73:1 open rear end) like it was nobody's business at the drop of a hat.

    I like the brown/tan color combo you've got there Mike...it's very '80s.
Does it have the tan cloth interior with the low back split bench seat?

That is the interior exactly. 88 Went TBI, Dually's kept the old body style.
87 SBC had TBIs in them. 454 went in 88.
My truck has 4.10 gears and a non lock up converter. I was made to do one thing....Tow. I get 8 MPG no matter what. Towing 8 Mpg. Cruising 8 mpg,
Dropped out of an airplane at 40,000 feet, not running...8 Mpg.
