    1976 Cadillac Mirage pickup

I was tempted to buy one a few months ago but I've cooled on the idea since. This is a fine example of this rare modification. I like everything but the price but it's consistent with recent sales, unfortunately.
The color looks like " Phoenician Ivory" to me.

Here's another based on an Eldorado platform that was listed on Ebay in June with a starting bid of $20,000. Beautiful car but no bids !

Kind of a different take on the contemporary seen; a Cadillac made into a truck, instead of the current batch of Escalade (et. al.) creations, a truck made into a Cadillac!

    G'day,

I think they're called a "flower car", especially the one next to the hearse. They were used to carry all of the flowers from the church to the cemetery.

    Regards from Down Under.

    John,
They are similar to flower cars in that they have an open bed in the back ( stainless steel beds for flower cars) but these 70's modifications were made as pickups specifically. The 70's were rife with modifications/coachbuilders that would fulfill the promise of a unique vehicle. The Mirage/Caribou etc were meant to set you apart ( and above ?) any other Cadillac owner. Traditional Coachworks (see attached) transformed the DeVille into a pickup. I'm not positive of the builer of the ' Caribou" or the Eldo versions.

On the subject of " Traditional " coachworks, here's one of their 76 Fleetwood Castilian station wagons listed for sale. Super, super rare and normally very pricey:

It seems the car world is currently filled with owners with wildly inflated ideas of their car's worth on the market. Probably a sign that the collector car market is about to tank ..... again!

Flower cars have a fanicer back then that. These look more like el camino wannabe's for the rich.

    Re: 1976 Cadillac Mirage pickup

    G'day,

Thanks to jogger and brougham for enlightening me. We don't see too many US flower cars, let alone Cadillac "pick-ups" Down Under. It's always good to see a "factory" customised vehicle.

As an aside, the ship with my car in it is due in Melbourne next Saturday, so I should have my hands on it before the following weekend. It's been a long time since I bought it last November. All of the restoration was done in Lancaster CA and the car was trucked to LA in June. It had been sitting at the shipping yard with three other cars waiting for the Import Approval Certificates before they all went into the same 40 foot container. I had mine, the other three guys were a bit slow, so we all had to wait. Then, when all the paperwork was in their hands, the USCBP decided to pull "my" container for a random check!!!

I'm guessing that nothing untoward was discovered, so the container was cleared and the ship left port late August and I'm pacing the floor like an expectant father right now.

    More news next week.

    Regards from Down Under.
