1964 429 question if i let it idle for a few mins ill get slight white smoke. its deff oil. if i rev it ill get a light puff but seems fine when driving. it runs amazing. my 68 472 did something similar and it turned out to be valve seals. i used 67 429 umbrella seals on it. is the 64 429 seals different from the 67 429? or is there any common things to burn a little oil?
Re: 1964 429 question Between 64-67 everything on the motor is the same.
seat angle-- 45 degrees
face angle--44 degrees
valve lift intake--.440 in.
valve lift exhaust--.440
valve spring pressure (valve open) lbs@in.--160@1 1/2
valve spring installed height--1 15/16 in.
stem to guide clearence-(intake .0005-.0025)(exhaust .0010-0025) in.
Stem diameter- (intake .3420)(exhaust .3420)
The only things that were different those years was, series 67 and 75 use 1 1/2 qt of coolant, and some amps on alternator at rpms. Re: 1964 429 question Only reason I ask is,if you look up 64 429 seals they look like o-rings. If you look up 67 429 seals they are the umbrella seals Re: 1964 429 question Try RockAuto... http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,carc...Stem_Seal.html.
I think Summit Racing has some, I know they got Chevy not sure about Caddy. Re: 1964 429 question yeah i found both styles. just wondering if i can use the 67 style because I've had good luck with them. or if I'm stuck with the 64-66 style. or if thats even my problem hahaha Re: 1964 429 question Using the 67 style is fine, in the motor there's no difference. Re: 1964 429 question Dont overlook a bad transmission vacuum modulator as a cause for the smoke. Re: 1964 429 question Just did that. Its deff an oil smell
