    Lower ball joint 1970 Eldorado

The dust cap of the lower ball joint on my 1970 Eldorado is damaged. I want to replace it . Can I just unbolt the 2 side bolts and 1 top bolt? Or do I need to take out the drive shaft and "spindel"/bearing assembly?
    Many thanks, ramon

If I remember correctly I did the ball joints without removing the drive shaft. But it is a long time ago.
When I did it, I replaced all upper and lower balls & knuckles and had everything disconnected. But I am almost sure the shaft was not out.

Thanks for the info. I think I will just start wrenching and see how it go's.

That's how I did it, because I did not have my shop manual yet back then.
    Good luck!

I just got the lower pherical ball joint loose but I can't get the lower ball joint off the A-arm. The driveshaft is in the way :-(.
Can some one please tell me if there is a way to take off the lower ball joint without removing the whole lower a-arm, torsion bar and steering knuckle? The book says that basicly the whole front suspension needs to dismantel to take out a ball joint but I do not have to remove the rivets in the A-arm. There is already a bolt-in-type ball joint.

Can't you remove the A-arm to work on it?
