power seat issue in my 66 riviera

I know its not a caddy, but I figure the seat bases are identical, so I might as well ask here. My rivieras power seat does not work. I can hear the motor run (sounds strong too), but the seat does not move. the seat is 2" too far forward for me, and my legs hit the lower dash/ column/ kick panel/ door panel when exiting the car. the seat is simply too far forward. how do I go about fixing the mechanism so the seat can move?

It seems to be jammed. Have you tried to help the mechanism with your hands, pushing the seat backwards? I would look under the seat with a torch for something preventing the movement. Maybe some WD-40 on the critical point could help.

Maybe some of the cables got loose or unplugged. If you can not determine whatīs the problem, you will have to remove the seat and check it carefully. GM had different kind of power seats that applied to all bodies described on the Body by Fisher FSM, so the 66 body Fisher manual of any GM car or some years later, could help you.

If it's anything like the 70 there is a motor that attaches to a transmission. The trans has solenoids that move gears inside the trans. Those drive speedo cables that run to the tracks.
If this is what yours is like then the transmission is probably not engaging. You can take it apart and clean it but if you just want the seat to move for now then take the speedo cable off the trans and stick it in a drill. Only move it a bit and then go to the other side so that it doesn't get jammed up.

Raise the seat all the way up. Look for short cables going from the seat motor to the seat tracks. More than likely one is stripped or disconnected. Push the seat switch while looking and you will see the problem. Bench or bucket seats? I owned a 66 Riv GS back in the day. Black on black bucket seats with 10 inch Cragers on it. Dad owned a tan 64 then I bought a 65, then sold it, bought the 66. It sure did like gas stations! It would pull to the right as I passed a Chevron station!

I cannot raise the seat up all the way. it does not work in any direction.
its a bench seat car (sadly), but its pretty sweet. plum with plum interior.
I'll make sure to take a look when I get a chance though.

^Beautiful!! I hope you can fix it... Bench seat is more difficult to handle. Maybe if someone helps you... I wish I could

A bench seat is just longer cables! You have at least 2 motors, one for fore and aft, one for vertical. If you can at least get the 2 front seat track bolts out of the floor pan, you should be able to tilt the seat back for a better look. NICE CAR! I love the 66's and 67's. Love the design of the speedometer face.

My uncle had a 65. Man I loved that car.
There may be 2 motors, maybe not. Our 70 Deville has just 1 motor with long speedo cables.

Really like the plum on plum, Kevin! Excellent color for that car.
