In the small city/suburb I grew up in there were 70's Cadillac ambulances. My Dad had a major medical problem around 1980 when I was in 7th grade, I had just walked in the door from school, and moments later he was shuttled off to the hospital in a 1976 Cadillac Ambulance just like yours, same colors. I will never forget it roaring off with the old school sirens revving up and blaring! The ambulance operator was intently smoking a cigarette, those were the days!

Despite how huge we now think those Cadillacs were they were nonetheless small enough that only my Mom rode along, my older brother and sister and I drove to the hospital separately following along watching anxiously and excited.

By the early/mid 80's the Cadillacs were replaced with unremarkable truck/box ambulances like everywhere else.

Years later I got to know the family who ran the private ambulance company, they said Cadillacs were used for their exceptional reliability, durability and smooth ride but later the larger truck based units were more practical for housing the increasing state of the art medical equipment and more personnel. They sold the business to the local hospital, I believe now it is municipal.

Thanks so much for keeping that beauty so nice and also for sharing!

I only could see these cadillac ambulances on movies or TV series and always excited me since a was a young boy. Here we had in the best case transformed '66 dodge darts. They looked impressive... And they were small compared to a cadillac!. I´d love to see one live someday Congrats for the good work!
