i have a 68 deville with drums all around, a friend of mine has a rotted 68 fleetwood with disc brakes. im going to swap it over. ive read the spindles are the same and i can use my drum ones. i have seen a few different stories that the wheels are different and the booster is different. im taking the master off the doner car but my car has a new booster. i didnt know if the boosters needed to be changed too. i also have aftermarket 15 inch wire wheels on my car now. will those work with the disc set up? thanks
I emailed this thread to GaryS. He knows all things 68 Cadillac and should be checking in soon.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Craig!
Your booster should work, but I would still grab the booster, along with the master cylinder. You will need the proportioning valve off the donor car. The rear wheel cylinders on the disc brake cars are a different diameter. If you don't want to change those over, you may be able to compensate with installing an adjustable proportioning valve, instead of the factory one off the donor. Pretty sure your aftermarket rims will work.
Ok great!! Thank you so much. Ill see how these wheel cyls are. If they look crusty ill just get two new ones for a disc car. I was hoping i wasnt going to have to mess with the booster because mine is brand new,and this car is rotted in a barn with water soaked floor, maggot filled dead rodents, and the matching smell to that visual.....dont want to lay on the floor haha
