New to Caddy and new to classic cars

I decided the other day that I would like to own a car...something different then you see everyday...long story short I came across a 64 Caddie and here I am.

Wanted to see if anyone has experience with a transmission rebuild for a classic caddie. The seals are bad on the trannie and 1st gear is slipping a bit. I brought it into the mechanic who is going to take a look at it.

If the trannie is bad...which I believe it is, what should I do? Buy a whole new after market trannie or rebuild th existing one. Do you know what I should expect to pay for either option...any advice is welcomed.

    Loving my first Caddie!!!

Welcome! I will always have a sweet spot for the 64 as I had one and lost it.
Expect to pay more for the rebuilt tranny than to have it rebuilt.
One option would be to buy a used one and rebuilt that one. Then swap and sell the old one.
