    1969 DeVille - Suspension/Lowering

Looking for some direction... I want to lower my 1969 Coupe DeVille a few inches to give it a cleaner look. What I would like to avoid is making any major modifications or going to an air ride suspension in order to keep it as "stock" as possible. That is unless there are overwhelming benefits to air ride.

Has anyone gone with a lowering kit (shocks and springs)? What brand? How many inches did you lower the car without clearance issues? I have standard size wheels and tires. Pictures and opinions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks for the feedback...

Sorry I have no help but that is a beautiful car. Love the wheels. I'm with Kevin, save your money. Why mess with perfection!
That being said, I'm sure one of the guys can help you.

This company makes a kit. Ask them for the sale price.

I think 2 inches should cut the rear wheel line of sight right through the center line with the bottom of the fender skirts which is a great look.

Should look a little like this

My '69 front end is nearly like that last pic as coil springs are sagged. Bottom often hits with road bumps... I can´t wait to have my springs replaced

Mine has stock new springs cut by about 1 1/2 coils to lower it about 2.5". It rides like stock but with two people in the back its close to the bump stops. When I redo it I would get a stiffer eibach progressive spring setup for the drop. Its still pretty good as is though.

Thanks for all the input. I definitely like the look. I have it narrowed down to two companies. One offers a kit complete with front and rear coil springs, front and rear shocks, and shorter lower A-arm bump stops. The other offers just the coil springs and believes the stock shocks can still be used, but no shorter A-arm bump stops. Do you guys think the coils are enough or should the shocks and bump stops be swapped out too?

    Re: 1969 DeVille - Suspension/Lowering

I installed a ride-tec air suspension on my 69 Deville convertible and once I got the bugs worked out of my install, I love it !! but it is a pricey solution to the problem. All in it was about $4K. But I can lower the car and look cool cruising ( by the way when low it is the smoothest ride ever!) or I can raise it up to get out of a steep driveway without dragging. which is one of the reasons I went that route. Ride tech make a kit just for Cadillac and has a wireless remote control so there are no holes in the dash made or bunches of wires. Plus it bolts in, so if you don't like it, or sell the car to a purist, you can always go back and bolt your old parts back in. But it is a little pricey. but what's money when you can crush beer cans at the cruise-in with it. HAHA!! Heck, Cadillac invented air ride, but this thing is like riding on a pillow on top of a cloud. My only advice if you go that way, is to buy the special tool to cut the air lines to length. It will save you time troubleshooting air leaks later. Ask me how I know.
