I'd love to do this. I'm just torn between doing the trip in one of the hearses or one of the Thunderbirds.

Oh, do the hearse. You'll get far more attention on the road.

Just my opinion, certainly wouldn't want to discourage someone from an adventure like this and would wish you best of luck. I have owned a lot of old cars some of which where cadillacs, 76 coupe, 59 biarritz, 78 biarritz, I am not so adventurous due my experience with such cars. From my past exp. you should bring two water pumps, two fuel pumps, two fuel filters, some rear wheel bearings, belts, fluids, hoses, tape , glue, etc. It seems to me although I love all cars and cadillacs included that they tend do much better in demolition derbys than on long road trips. I have spent more time looking for rattles and fixing things, sometimes twice than I have on the road. One last suggestion, take the hubcaps off and put them in the trunk, and make sure the rear wheel skirts are latched well or do the same with those. You only live once, and should make the best of it,so I hope I have not deterred you. but when you stop at the diner for breakfast and the waitress says, who's car is that smoking out front ,think of me. LOL . Bad joke, I really hope that wouldn't happen ! I think ,And this may not be the best thing to say on a cad forum, that Cadillac was the "Standard of the world" in the beginning. And maybe now with new engineering. But some of in-between they more a work in progress to impress the neighbors. And are more fitting to be driven to the local ice cream stand to be admired. Sorry if I rained on your parade but you asked, I wish you nothing but success and fun if you take the trip. please keep us filled in.

OH and don't forget a couple of drive shaft universals and a carrier bearing,

I've driven my 1977 Coupe de Ville from CA to IA and back, and CA to NJ and back. Worst that ever happened was vapor lock. Regular maintanence and a thorough going-through before departure are the keys to a worry-free trip.

Three weeks from today, I'm driving the car to FL and back. I'm very much looking forward to letting to old girl do what God and GM designed her for: soak up long stretches of interstate in supreme quiet and comfort.
