    1948 Cadillac... Need Help!

    Hello everyone,

My grandpa is wanting to sell his 1948 Cadillac. Beautiful car, but the issue is, I have no clue what model it is. I've got the title to it, but it only lists "4D" under the series or body style. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Reason he is selling it is, his health is failing and he wants to sell it and split the money up with the grandkids. I would buy it in an instant since I'm the one that "takes care" of it, but I don't have the funds to give to the other grandkids. They have no interest in it, other than the money they will get when it sells. Once I know the model, I can look for a value of it. Mileage is a tad over 83,000. Body is in good shape except for a few dings here and there. I think there is a small tear in the front seat, but the rest of the interior looks good. Thanks for the help.

    Bill

That is a 1948 Series 62 Sedan, Model 6269, or 6269X if optioned with power windows.

Thanks 77CDV. I don't know much about Cadillac's and was having a heck of a time on the internet trying to figure out what series it was.

This car is unique in it's age and condition, owing to it's age, I dont think your going to find a blue book rating,I would ask around and get expert advice on it,

maybe even get an official appraisal, just deduct the appraisal cost from each of the grandkids, maybe get in touch with a local car club.

Hate to break it to you, Bill, but the kids are going to be mighty disappointed once the sales price is split up. A Series 62 sedan is probably the least valuable body style. Just going from your description and the pictures provided, I'd estimate a value of around $10K to $12K. Several factors can increase or decrease that range, but it's a fair starting point. Since the car is to be sold and the proceeds divided, your best route is a professional appraisal, the cost of which will be equally shared among the beneficiaries.

It's a tough market right now, and collector car prices are not what they once were. Best of luck on the sale.

Take a look at the NADA Classic Car guide at the link above. I'd guess your car is worth in the lower teens. From the photos, the most needed obvious repair is the seats. Of course it's mechanical condition can greatly affect it's value in addition to rust. Read the descriptions for 'low', 'average', and 'high' values. See where the car fits best.
Good luck, it's a great looking car.

Thats really too bad the grandchildren arent interested in the car. My brother and I have managed to keep a few things we grew up with, the last car our grandfather ever purchased, a boat, and several antique cars, among other things. Sure we could sell these belongings and walk away with some cash, but why would we?? The momeries we have are worth far more than the money these items would fetch. Your Cadillac has a place in your families history, and once its gone, its gone. Goodluck.....

Thanks everyone for the input. Like I said, I would love to keep it, but with my present job possibly getting cut next year (State Worker), the huge amount of hobbies that I have, along with my boys, and all the other grandkids wanting the money, I wouldn't be able to swing it right now. Actually I could, but I need to be somewhat smart with big purchases right now. We are looking maybe around the $15k obo for the car.

I bought my '67 Thunderbird from a highly disinterested grandson for peanuts. That was 7 years ago, still have her.

Grandpa should list it for twelve dollars and send each ungrateful grandkid a dollar and a copy of the ad.

Sold the car late last year for $10k to an older gentleman that is going to restore it and use it as his golf car. He wanted something classic to cruise to all the golf courses to play golf in.
