The rubber seal on my 2013 XTS failed back in May of last year. It stuck up like a loose rubberband. My dealer got a new one and installed it in 2 days. Had to order a new one. Great, loaner car. No problem. Well this past week (Saturday) same thing. Got in to the dealer; got a loaner and away I go. Around noon, got a call that it was ready, back to the dealer. On the way home, opened the roof and when I got home; like an old rubber band. Back to the dealer and, a bit peeved, told them what was on my mind, but kept it civil. Got the ole loaner back. The next day, got the call and instead of reinstalling the ole rubberband, they put a whole seal in. Seems the last time (May) they put a partial in. Keeping my fingers crossed. If any one ever has this problem, make sure they put in a new complete seal.
I just silicones mine back into the backside of the window. It came out twice in the warmer months and noticed there was no sealant holding it in. Should be good to go for the winter.
I have had the same problem here in Florida on my 2014. I was able to fix it myself but almost took it in. No reason this should be happening. I did not see any sealant either. It could be that it's designed to have some give so they wouldn't want to use sealant.
Mine just gets stuck when I go to open it. (almost like it gets caught on the bar) I press the button a second time and it opens. (vent/tilt works fine) The seals have been replaced on mine too but I'm now wondering if the seals are somehow involved with the roof not opening on the first click. It's getting colder here so I'll most likely just wait until spring to take it into the dealer unless someone has a do it yourself suggestion I could try.
I'm scared to ask them to fix it because it seems like it is just getting caught on the bar OR a sensor is stopping it thinking something is there. Every GM car I've owned has had a Moonroof issue. (all other makes I've owned never had an issue) GM needs to ask for help in this department, lol.
I'm thinking that the seal on the roof part that moves up, down and back may be getting stuck on the seal that is stationary (where they need when down). Wonder if some type of lubricant (silacone or some type of grease) may help. Any ideas or suggestions?
Does yours ever get stuck on the first try then always open on the second? I'm wondering if we have the same issue as my sunroof seals were already replaced right before I picked up the car...they never told me why, just that it needed a new seal.
I tried cleaning out the path and drain area. At first had some good success on it but when it rained hard, there are some drips. Dealer told me to replace the gasket and seal which would cost an arm and an leg, but I have no choice to replace it. By the way adding silicon may worsen the problem.
Many of these types of seals are press-fit. If they're binding enough to be displaced during movement, all seating surfaces where glass-to-seal contact is made should be cleaned and inspected. This includes the glass itself, which is the most likely cause since it's hard to get at and over time can accumulate- especially with the sun baking contaminants in any water with dirt that may collect there.
Was just a suggestion. My headliner and rear deck are stuffed with soundproofing material to eliminate the vibration and rattles...Caddy didn't do that right either so sometimes we have to get creative under FULL warranty or not! Oh and my cener console couldn't be fixed after THREE tries....I fixed the console switch myself using a rubber grommet. Again, not a Caddy part.
I fixed mine myself back in 2018...needed a hammer to get it back in the channel though...I don't see why they would need sealant, as tight as mine fit I don't see sealant improving anything. I had the dealer do the "park re-learn" process and haven't had an issue since.
