    New Tires recommendations

Time has come finally to replace the OEM tire thankfully. I hated the ride on these tires, it is very harsh and loud. My wife refused to okay new tire purchase, until we got two years on the car. She is so tight lol said it was a waste of money. Oh well now we've got 35k miles on car I'm ready to replace them. I probably could get another 10k on them, but we've got a 2.5k mile road trip in the fall. I like to have new rubber for the trip, so what other brands in the 19's can you guys recommend.

check 'XTS suspension' thread back on page2:
Pirelli P7 's are much quieter, make the whole car ride better. Look for good discount and cash-back offers.

I replaced my OEM 20" Bridgstone Potenza's with the same tires. I think they are really good tire. The tires had 57K on them and started a little vibration, even though they had 15-20K tread life left. New Bridgstones are a lot quieter. When I had a 2010 Buick LaCrosse, I replaced my crappy 19" Goodyear RS-A's with Yokahoma S-drive . Great handling tires for reasonable money. The best advice is to scour the online tire sites for reviews. You can even have them delivered to your dealer for mounting.

I just rented the Impala LTZ last week and did many miles of highway driving. Same tires as my XTS... much much MUCH smoother ride.
I suppose tires can make a difference, but i suspect its the suspension design that is set up for sporty driving.

That's interesting! It's a pity the Impala has some bad features. I wish we could merge their DNA and get the best of both vehicles!

Yes I agree. I took a close look at the loaded Impala LTZ's and they are nice but I just don't think quite up to the standards of the XTS, especially the interior and the back end which I think is weak. It also bothered me that it uses bulbs in the rear and not LED's which to me looks outdated and cheap, but the price reflects that too. All in all a pretty nice car though.

I'll be needing new tires pretty soon, but in the mean time I've been playing with the air pressure on the stock tires. The manual says 35psi cold. I found that if I go 30psi and no more that 32psi the ride is much better. It's just a band aid until I get new tires but it does make a noticeable difference.

Yes, tire pressure makes a real improvement! My Pirelli's are quiet ( and seem to be getting quieter?) and lowering the pressure to around 30psi brings the ride back even closer to real Cadillac level. Only trouble is, OnStar keeps telling me to add air, and sending me email warnings! Soon my 'free' OnStar service will end, and I will have to think for myself - Oh the humanity!

I might have a look at next year's LTZ, especially if they improve the interior a bit - I'd even be prepared to change out bulbs to LED lights!

What convinced me to get the XTS was the reclining seats, as that made a 7foot long 'trunk' which is actually longer than the SRX and the Subaru Outback and the LaCrosse. I need that length for RC battleships that I build. The only other contender was a Cadillac Hearse. I thought the LTZ was so similar in capacity to the XTS I overlooked the comfort angle. The LTZ can also come with 18' wheels, which no doubt helps the ride.

I did a lot of research before I got a set of new tires. I would highly recommend Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. I got them at Discount tire for $212 per tire. They are gorgeous. The ride is smooth and quiet and they come with a 70k warranty which is rare with 245/45/R19 tire world.

has anyone gotten wider tires? If so, what size?
Having the rim wider than the tire on a city every-day driver is just plain stupid. ...Scratching and scraping out here in CA

I always had good luck with Continentals, The extremecontact DWS, it's a good wearing tire that provides real good traction in wet and snow conditions, compliant sidewalls give a nice softer and quieter ride.

    Re: New Tires recommendations

Just replaced my Bridgestone Potenzas (at 900 miles (YES ON A NEW CAR)) to the Continental DWS Extreme Contact Pros. What a world of difference. Not only is the ride quieter, its less bumpy, smooth turns, and the wheel turns easier. Just throwing this out, if you live in Southern California and are looking to buy 4 OEM Bridgestone potenzas feel free to message me!

Remember, if you get the Pirelli P7 to be sure you get the 'All Season PLUS'. Tire Rack shows significant difference from the basic 'All Season'!
