    2013 xts brake squeal

The brakes on my 2013 xts Luxury (22,000 miles) emit an ear piercing squeal when I brake in reverse. This usually occurs after the car has been parked for sometime, ie; overnite in my garage. In warmer weather it was just an intermittent screech that only seemed to occur if we were having wet weather. After being parked outside my office yesterday, I not only embarrassed myself, but I think I alerted the whole county when I applied the brakes while backing up. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

I have noticed that recently and I am about to hit 8000 miles. I think it is do to the cold. I also hear that it could be possible normal in reverse.

Same brake squeal in reverse for me too. So far I've only noticed it in cold weather and they seem extra 'grabby' when cold and in reverse.

Yeah exactly in reverse only. Also after a second it usually goes away I think it has something to do with them warming up

I'm having the same issue, especially now in the very cold Chicago weather. The screech is ear-piercing when I back out of the garage in the morning. I'll get it to the dealer eventually, but no time now.

I agree with farm boy but for my ATS. My XTS does not do it. My wife's car screeches loudly as it gets backed out of our garage. We live in Minneapolis. Noise is much worse in bad weather. Other forum members have cited same issue. There may be a solution. Go to

Look on page 10 that describes the issue for the ATS

I too have experienced this same ear piercing screech when in reverse regardless of the weather conditions. It is truly embarrassing when a customer is in my car! This is the sixth issue I have had with my XTS and it just turned 6,000 miles. Unacceptable in a car that costs north of $50,000. This was the 58th GM branded vehicle purchased in my family and it may be the last.

    Re: 2013 xts brake squeal

When I took our XTS Luxury in to dealer for first oil change in October, I mentioned the brake squeal in reverse issue and was told "engineering is aware of this concern/will address at later date". I followed up on it in November and was told there is "no update available at this time".

So it appears Cadillac has been aware of issue for some time, but nothing seems to be forthcoming--at least not yet.

    Re: 2013 xts brake squeal

I remember seeing a thread (don't know if it was here or another forum) that linked to a GM solution involving brake grease on the back of the pads. Don't quote me on that but it does scratch at a memory.

    Re: 2013 xts brake squeal

We just got our 2013 XTS back from the selling dealer for a couple of issues, one being the squealing brakes. They changed the front rotors and brake pads, and so far haven't heard anymore squealing. It's only been a few days, but hopefully that is the cure for us...

    Hello XTS Driver,

I am glad to hear that you haven’t had this concern return after your visit to the dealership. Please keep us updated if the concern returns and if you would like any assistance in working with the dealership to look into any future concerns. Thank you very much for taking the time to update the thread with your experience.

    Re: 2013 xts brake squeal

We,too, have this problem. Two trips to dealership each time being told there is nothing wrong. There IS something wrong and it is both embarrassing and irritating. Not only the squeal, but the brakes are also grabby, this could be dangerous. Cadillac should be shamed. This vehicle is supposed to be top notch.
