Cross shop: XTS vs 2014 CTS

Photos of the '14 CTS are on GMInsider and the car will be officially revealed at the NY auto show today. Ciel looking front end, XTS looking back end, sharp interior. So since this car will be larger than the ATS, have the same engine as the XTS and is RWD, any XTS shoppers considering it? Would have to see it in person. But to me, looks better proportioned than both the previous CTS and the XTS. Wonder what the price differential would be XTS vs CTS?

Not sure about that front end. Will wait to pass judgement after seeing more and better photos. I suspect that the rear seat and smaller trunk in the CTS will still keep people in the XTS camp. Yeah, it will be interesting to see the price differential.

Just saw the pics and a YouTube clip. Very impressed. I'm shopping. Either '14 XTS TT or '14 CTS TT. From the looks of the CTS I think I will be getting over XTS. Heading to NY auto show to see up close before I officially decided. Either way Cadillac had done a masterful job and I am sure tge CTS will be a huge hit

Take some pictures and tell us if you're still impressed after seeing it in person.

I am so glad I did not buy an XTS after seeing this new CTS. I will be looking to trade my DTS in on one of these when they hit the lots. This car IMO looks much better then the XTS in every way shape and form just a little smaller. And even that I dont think it will be too much smaller then the XTS, maybe 195 or 196 inchs long where the XTS is at 202. I see this car stealing away alot of sales away from the XTS. This is one of the best looking Caddys I have seen in awhile. Its even funny seeing alot of other people on the internet that are true GM/Cadillac haters that are even saying that GM hit a homerun on just the styling alone. I guess we will have to wait and see.

a test drive of the two vehicles might also be in order before deciding ... i usually care more about how my car looks and feels to me (interior/handling/etc) than it does to other people (exterior/etc)

While certainly not as simple as this (there are many distinguishing assets); are you looking for SPORT/touring or sport/TOURING. I'd rate both vehicles great rides but the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive is the obvious biggest divisor.

I agree with your assessment and the distinctions to be made between the two. I guess I'm getting older, since I value the TOURING aspects of the XTS, rather than the SPORTING aspects of the CTS. Of course, that's why they make "chocolate AND vanilla" right? Either choice is a winner for Cadillac buyers.

NY Auto show was great and you should all know that GM stole the show with the new corvette. As fir new CTS. Very nice. Interior major improvement much bigger. Will take time fir current CTS owners to get use to the XTS rear end. Overall. Very nice.

The 2014 CTS is only a tiny bit larger inside than the current one, but the larger windows probably make it feel more spacious. At least there's more headroom front and back, which they probably got by mounting the seats lower, since the car is actually lower than before. Sigma cars have high floors in my experience; haven't inspected an Alpha Cadillac that closely.

I'd have to agree with you. This is definitely one of the most gorgeous models that Cadillac has came up with so far.

Re: Cross shop: XTS vs 2014 CTS

    Hello,

The 2014 is indeed very nice. In addition to my XTS Premium I own a 2008STS. Is it just me or does the CTS resemble the STS with rounder rather than sharper lines. From my perspective the side view is very, very similar to the STS. The front, rear and interior is taken almost entirely from the XTS. I was thinking GM would do a total redesign of the CTS, IMHO they did not.
What do you think? Please, no flames, it's just an opinion and we all have them.

    Thanks,

Excellent profile! Good proportions, but I will be staying with my XTS.
My wife and I were planning on buying a CTS but when we went to the dealer and tried one on my left knee was jambed into the dash with the seat all the way back ( I'm 6'-3").
Major disappointment! Untill we laid eyes on this Silver Coast XTS, which we promptly bought, and glad we did.
