Why doesn't my new XTS have a locking gas tank door?

I was very surprised to find that the XTS does not have a secure, locking, gas tank door. With no gas cap, and gas prices soaring, how vulnerable are we to gas thieves ??

The reason there is not a locking gas door is that there is no cap to remove to steal gas, and its impossible to put a hose into the tank. You must use the special funnel to put fuel or drygas into the tank. Have you located yout funnel???

No! The dealer service advisor was clueless about this, and was also surprised that the gas tank was not secured. Why is it impossible to put a hose into the tank ??

No I can't, so where is it probably they have hidden it in plain sight?

Check for the funnel in the trunk near the spare tire well or inflator compressor. Info on both the XTS& Lincoln MKS state hoses can't fit down the filler line as there is a valve that keeps vapors under control, thus requiring the special funnel. I still like the remote lock that my Seville has.

Its not 1973. No one steals gas anymore. I've been driving Cadillacs without locking caps for nearly a decade...

Does this mean that in order to refuel, you open the trunk, retrieve the funnel, open the gas tank door, insert the funnel, start fueling?

No, it means if you are filling with a gas can you need the funnel. You wouldn't need it when using a gas pump.

Stupid marketing people. All 'up-level' Cadillacs always had and still have the locking gas cap, as do the 'up-level' European and Asian cars.

Such a minor item, why not make it mandatory on all cars that have auto-locking doors? The most expensive piece seems to be the manual mechanical override solution.

Not worried about gas being siphoned out, but would be upset if vandals put stuff (sugar?) in. I don't know where and when I will sometimes have to park.

Now will have to fiddle again with a key for the gascap? Come'on now, marketing people, please ...

Most vandals wouldn't know they have to insert a long, narrow funnel first in order to trip the inner fuel cap. Things poured in past the first door only don't reach the tank.

If one's living environment is so bad, it's time to move, buy a cheap car, or deal with the bullxhit that comes with the neighborhood.

Good thing I own "down-level" CTS-Vs. I think the marketing people are fine. The buyers are a different story...
