    XTS question for Cadillac Tony

OK -- have been playing around w/the Build Your Own on the website. Does the Platinum trim have unique wood options? Is that Bird's Eye Maple unique to the Platinum w/black interior? Is there a unique "brown" wood?

One of the best features about my DTS Platinum is the amazing embossed light ash wood.

The way the ordering catalog reads, the wood trim is tied to the interior color. Jet Black interior gets you the "Lineate" (ash colored) wood with straight grain....

.....while the Light Platinum gets you Nutella Sapele (brown colored) wood with circular grain and inlay, which is similar to the inlay in your DTS Platinum's wood trim.

I would imagine colors are tied in to start and may be freed up further on down the line?

Doubtful. They were probably matched to trim colors by the design team for aesthetics, as well as to minimize ordering confusion and simplicity of choice for the consumer.

With the exception of the CTS-V's choice between faux carbon fiber or Midnight Sapele wood, no current Cadillac models offer an option on accent trim. Escalades have two different colors of wood, but they are also tied to the seat color like in the XTS (Reddish wood with the Ebony interior, and Chocolate Brown with the Cashemere).

Question for Cadillac Tony....The sunshade on the sunroof of the new XTS looks similiar to the one on the CTS. Will the car generate a lot of heat with a thin shade like this?

But those leathers and woods are both Platinum exclusive?

Yes, they're Platinum exclusives. In photos, I preferred the wood in the jet black interior but, in person I much prefer the wood in the light platinum with its decorative inlays. I was told by a Cadillac rep that the leather they're using in the Platinum is softer and even more supple than the semi-aniline used in the previous DTS Platinum.

It sounds great! I can't wait to see one in-person (and sit in it) at the dealership soon!

Nope. They will be changing it from a semi-transparent mesh to a fully opaque vinyl shade (similar to the SRX) at some point after start of production, but only for aesthetic reasons. The CTSs do just fine as far as heat goes, even here in the blistering Florida sun.

i would assume that probably has more to do with the UV protection built into the glass (and the factory tint) than the thickness of the shade

Re: XTS question for Cadillac Tony

I never had any heat problems with the shade on my 09 CTS. I didn't particularly care for the flapping it generated with all the windows down on the highway. But I generally had the radio loud anyway, so it was only a minor annoyance.
