Anyone else agree that this old pic from the STS section looks like a prototype XTS?

So I got a 'new' STS recently and decided to dig into the old posts in the STS section looking to see what the spy shots for this car was like and stumbled upon this shot of what instantly said XTS to me...

I agree that it is more XTS than STS but to me it is more like another car currently in production. I want to say Lincoln MKZ, but that's not it...I dunno I will have to think about it.

It lacks that 'bubble' look that so many complain about on the XTS and shows more of the flattened lines of several in production cars with a grill that reminds me of the new 200.

    Am so confused.
    DTS - CTS - XTS - ATS
    Must be getting old.
    Miss the old names.
    Seville - Eldorado - Deville - Fleetwood

Watched a review the other day of Cadillac -VS- Lincoln
It came down to Lincoln is building American Luxury; Cadillac has gone somewhere other.

From the windshield forward it looks like Cadillac's Sixteen (think that's what it was called) show car. It's much more handsome than the STS (which I thought look awkward in its last iteration) or the XTS in my opinion. 'Course they could have really messed up the back end....

And I'd have to disagree with the Lincoln comment. The next MKZ looks sharp. But the current one, while nicely proportioned, is a re-grilled Fusion. And the MKS is just an slightly more attractive Taurus, which itself won't win any beauty contests. There's lots of slab sided sheet metal with a cramped, dated looking interior. Like the Lincoln split grill though.....

Well I feel differently. Up until now, Lincoln had nothing that excited me. I say "up until now" because the new MKZ looks pretty sharp, but I haven't seen anything up close.

Cadillac has not some great stuff styling wise. Even the XTS, which may not be my cup of tea, still carries forward the Cadillac DNA that was first introduced with the CTS. The ATS looks promising, and the XTS will fill a spot, but I will say it is no flagship car.

Should have read further before I posted as I would have quoted you. I agree wholeheartedly.

Re: Anyone else agree that this old pic from the STS section looks like a prototype X

Those have to be the most bizarre comparison videos ever. First, CTS vs MKZ. Gilded Ford Fusion based on FWD Mazda 626 mechanicals, vs a true RWD bespoke sport sedan, the basics being so good that they can make the world-beating CTS-V from it. Though the MKS looks like a deal on paper, in the flesh the CTS is a real Caddy, while the MKS is just a barely nicer Fusion, that doesn't even drive any better than a comparably equipped Fusion. The CTS was Motor Trend's 2008 Car of the Year, and received many other accolades as well. The MKZ? The hybrid gets accolades for mileage, lumped in the same paragraph as the similar hybrid Fusion. The market has spoken on this one: great sales for the CTS; poor for the MKZ. Most people wouldn't cross shop them, though they are cross shopping the CTS with BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Jaguar. Real engineering wins out over badge engineering every time.

The MKS vs the CTS-V comparison is even more bizarre. CTS-V as a luxo-barge? Who dreamt that one up? The Lincoln is an awkwardly styled, cramped large car, based on the 14 year old Volvo S80 platform that was never state-of-the-art. Ford initially tried to sell it as a sport sedan, but the market didn't buy that. They haven't bought the car much, either. No one would ever cross shop these two cars. Cadillac's true competitor to the MKS will be the XTS. The MKS was just overhauled for 2013 to try to boost sales, though it is still cramped. The comparison should be interesting. I hope they get their facts straight next time, though. There were so many errors and inaccuracies that I can't list them all. Just bizarre.

It is amazing how big the exterior of the MKS is. But mostly because of how cramped the interior is. They did make the trunk opening bigger, though. Hooray?

The comparison really is stupid. They should have gone all the way and compared a Corvette to a Town Car, and then complained about the lack of seating for 4 in the Corvette. Jeezz.....
