Re: The Cadillac XTS is NOT a DTS or STS replacement

Good -- the criticism on here may have helped them decide to remarket it in a hurry. Hopefully they will sell lots.

They definitely need this type of vehicle in their assortment. There are/will be buyers who don't like the current CTS, and who will find even the future CTS too sporty. Whether in interior space, or in ride.

I like the look of the XTS. I would just need to sit in one to decide on the size. But it would need more power.

Now...when is the STS/DTS replacement coming out?
    NOW

    '08 DTS Platinum (2/11-?)
    '97 Riviera S/C ('06-08 and 8/11-?)

I feel the same as you about the XTS. I'm liking it more and more but I know it would leave me wanting more power. As for the DTS replacement, the flagship is probably about three years away:
    http://blog.caranddriver.com/cadilla...ing-discussed/

They also mention the possibility of the Escalade, for all intents and purposes, being replaced by the rumored Lambda crossover - and the "actual" Escalade becoming a "halo" vehicle - which means (to me) much more expensive - but still available for those willing to pay for it... Interesting...

Well I guess there is a fine enough difference between 'replacement' and 'in place of'; challenging the difference, is purely a matter of semantics. Of course it is a different vehicle, but it does fill, part of the slot left vacant by the elimination of DTS and STS.

I like the Car and Driver piece Lord Cadillac. I am real happy to see that Cadillac has a plan for the future. Its interesting that we may see a next gen XTS in a few years. I think that will be because the current stretched Eplison platform will leave us by mid to late decade. But its a surprise if the C/D article is right that a new flagship will be made along side the XTS then replace it while we also see a even bigger flagship above the next gen XTS if I read that all right. Either way I can not wait to see a new REAL fullsize Cadillac in the wings. I just hope whatever they bring out in the next couple years is bigger, longer, wider with AWD and much more luxurious then the current XTS.

A different perspective: the idea that Cadillac would like the world to know that "the XTS is NOT a replacement to the STS/DTS" might be a notion of them wanting DESPERATELY to not have ANY CONNECTION with either one of those two cars, WHATSOEVER (in relation to the XTS, anyway). Just a thought...

Yes it is. Let's be real. The DTS was aimed at the older Caddy buyers and the STS was designed for the younger ones. I think the new XTS is very nice and fits a need for Cadillac. The DTS drivers will love it as will the STS owners However , if someone wants more "German" type of handling car the the CTS sedan or coupe is perfect.

With this said I own a STS and will wait to see if GMs new V8 makes it into next years XTS.

Re: The Cadillac XTS is NOT a DTS or STS replacement

I was just at my Dealer Friday(detroit metro) and they had a white one....very, very nice. The exterior is gorgeous...and so it the interior...I personally dont love the steering wheel or Dash...but its all top quality. I agree, I would not pay the money for a V-6...I would need a V-8 or a V-6 with supercharge.

Since the CTS is going to be the STS in less than 2 years, I don't see the XTS as anything STS related...

I still feel they should have just used the DTS name. XTS should have been for the flagship. XLR... XTS...

I agree with reserving the X for flagship but I would also like a name for the flagship. Also, can you imagine the crying we would have to listen to if everyone's beloved DTS had been defiled this vehicle.

Odd marketing move to announce that your brand new top of line car is not the one that people with the big bucks should buy. Wait 5 more years for the new tip of line 7 Series , S class fighter to arrive. Come on !

They should bring back the brougham name or the Deville....On another note I have been reading the review's on the XTS and everyone keeps saying how gorgeous it is and it's a real head turner and they talk about how great the interior is etc. the only complaints I see is they all don't like the 6 cylinder engine and the handling.

I think the flagship will have a proper name. As for tainting the DTS, the car itself was already tainted...

Stay the hell away from barge-mobile names. That Cadillac is dead, thank goodness...

Re: The Cadillac XTS is NOT a DTS or STS replacement

Interesting, though, that Chevrolet has no problem keeping the Impala and Malibu name. And Buick, with a fleet of new cars, has seen fit to name them as oppose to initial them. Maybe Cadillac thought they could attract more MB and BMW owners if they used letters, kind of like what Lincoln is doing. They should have aimed higher, like at Rolls-Royce and Bentley, who still name their vehicles and haven't suffered much doing so.....
