They only have 3 cars now (CTS, SRX, Escalade) and increasing to 5 after the XTS and ATS. Chances are they will end up with somewhere around 8 models by the end of the decade, so there's going to be product that falls in between the small car and the huge car.

I'd try the car before you write it off. After that if you're still holding out for a huge car with a floaty ride and V8, I'd say grab a Certified DTS to drive until the Omega platform FTS comes out later in the decade.
I will certainly try the XTS when it arrives at the dealer.
But I know myself very well, and I know I won't be impressed.
The XTS is not the standard of the world by any standard.
This year I replaced 5 STS V8 cars by 5 Escalade V8 suv's for my company, I'm not lacking Cadillac loyalty.
So I'm no stranger at the Cadillac dealer.
But in 3 years I need a fullsize replacement for these Escalades.
And looking at the XTS makes me fear the worst for the design of the new flagship, if it arrives at all.
The Audi A7 has certainly the same hideous trunk design as the XTS, but it looks wide and low and part of the design, which in my personal view is a lot better than narrow and high as the XTS. The wide and low style, gives the Audi a bold coupe look.
The narrow and high look makes the XTS look dull and boring, and it looks exactly like a narrow and high prius hatchback.
(And I won't even mention the third brake light on top of the already too small trunk of the XTS, as if they forgot to integrate it in the design, and just dropped it on top of the car)

And an Audi may cost more, but don't forget that Audi uses much higher quality materials for their cars, inside and out.
I remember the aluminum corrosion problems of the STS hood just after the warranty expired.
Or all the rust problems of the Fourth Generation Seville, while Audi allready used zinc and aluminum to protect their cars.
That just doesn't happen with an Audi.
The build quality and therefore the resale value can not be compared. And makes up for the most part of the higher saleprice.
I don't like german car brands, so I won't buy an Audi, but if I was not a Cadillac lover I would buy an Audi over every Cadillac.
And that's certainly the European view. Cadillac's are cheaply build (the constant use of cheap plastic in GM products is a big image problem), and
Cadillac needs the overseas markets to survive.

Sure wish y'all hadn't posted that picture of an A7. Only points out how "uber" sexy a car Cadillac could have designed using the same basic architectural layout.....

Angles and colors make a ton of difference. Those shots of the White XTS don't look that hot, but the new CTS looks awkward in some pictures too. The shots I've seen of the XTS in darker colors from better angles look terrific, IMO.

It does look a lot better in the darker color. But I still think it would look better with a longer rear end.

I'll reserve final judgement until I see one on the road and in person. Until then, my first impressions aren't compelling.

Then why is 2011 the best year for Audi ever?
Apparently no one is buying American cars right now, the Germans break sales record after sales record.
And don't take my word for it, just search the internet.
And if no one is buying anything right now, then Cadillac is doomed, because the XTS exhausted the last cash Cadillac had.

Well aren't we a Debbie downer? Cadillac sales are actually up quite a bit over last year, even though the the luxury segment as a whole is down.

But don't take my word for it- just search the Internet.

And I love how this d00d proclaims that the XTS took all of Cadillac's cash. What is he? The uber-banker? I seem to notice this little thing called the ATS that has garnered some pub lately. And a Ciel. And other things, too...

The XTS probably didn't cost hardly anything to develop (other than CUE) since it's a LaCrosse, which has been around for a couple of years...

Yes d00d, how dare I, I just forgot Cadillac is the financial success of the automotive world.

    LOL
