The 3.0 liter twin turbo LF3 engine will likely be making it into the Cadillac XTS for the first model year. This engine should produce around 350 horsepower.
The 2012 Buick LaCrosse GS (all wheel drive) is very, very likely to be getting this 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 - which means it's also very likely to be available in the AWD XTS as well.
The twin-turbo V6 was confirmed to me by a rep at the Mainstreet in Motion event. He says it will make crazy power and torque, but I prefer a V8 anyway.
My question is how much is all that horsepower going to have to move? I'm kind of glad I got the last year of the DTS'. Same with my Deville. Got the last of the 4.9L and she still can hang with the best of them.
Considering how the ATS is going to weigh close to 4000 pounds, I think the XTS will weigh close to the M5.. Still, I think it's going to be a pretty good handling vehicle.. We'll have to wait and see..
BUMP - Just got confirmation that that twin turbo motor will be NORTH of 400 when it is offered in the XTS... Just a quick FYI. Also confirmed NO V-Series for the XTS.
At this level, peak horsepower is just for bragging rights. This engine needs tons of low-end torque so the everyday driving experience is a quantum leap better than the NA engine and the DTS. Otherwise, what's the point?
Anyone know the take rates for the optional engines on sedans north of $40k?
I think Cadillac should have a V series in all of it's lineup. The branding of the "V" is great and people know that it stands for better performance, at least Caddy owners do. I really do like the Platinum series on the DTS, it makes a big difference on the inside. Cadillac could make an even higher trim level to satisfy the most neediest luxury buyers, but that probably wont happen.
Because the DTS is gone, the XTS should offer both trims IMO, one for the performance minded person, the other strictly for comfort.
The one in the Ciel is a concept motor. It doesn't have to last 200k+ miles under harsh driving conditions.
Rumor is the 3.6 will be replaced by a 3.7L in 2016ish, and that more then likely will be turbo compatible (as all new motors are built up with this ability).
How will the 3.6 be outdated; it's less than 10 years old. I sure don't know too much about this engine, but it's not that old, to be relegated to obsolete (which your post seems to imply).
By obsolete I mean that GM will have created a better engine. The HF Family isn't going anywhere, however that specific engine is one of the oldest ones in production. GM isn't going to let the family stagnate. When was the 3.6L non-DI introduced? 2006? Expect an update of some sort.
Well, nobody will be seeing the twin turbo 3.0 V6 until late 2013. There are some issues with the engine. If you want to discuss this specifically, see the new thread I created...
