Performance Mode

Remove this ad
Hi all,

I have 2006 XLR-V and found out that it has PERFORMANCE mode.
I use that and slide the gear to manual shifting side but I do not shift.
The car feels better. More racier.

What exactly does that mode do?
Is it transmission related?
Is is traction control related?

I will continue using the car in that mode but just wanted to know
what is really happening.

The Boss

Re: Performance Mode

Boss
I think you are reffering to sport mode. Performance mode cuts off traction controll and stability controll it is activated with rocker on console.
Sport Mode is activated by moving shift into manual mode but not manually shifting. It stiffens the ride (as you already noted) and changes the shift points. I have seen a (major) .4 sec reduction in otr mile time when using sport mode. One of the big pluses in the xlrv/corvette 6 speed is the smooth transition between gears. Sport mode is similar to a standard shift in terms of the 'pop' between shifts. The engine will rev higher prior to shifting reaching its max HP. You will probably find your traction controll fighting you in the first thee gears. If you want to feel the full thrill of your V turn off T/C and put it in performance mode. You will lose some rubber and you might want to leave stability controll on till you get comfortable. Enjoy your ride I love mine.

Re: Performance Mode

Quick 65,

I use to have 1996 Corvette Grand Sport with 6 speed.
When I shift V in sport mode. I get the same feeling like I am driving the
wild Corvette I had. Although V is much more together car.

I almost feels reckless. The wheels spin and it really flies.
Like a whole different vehicle.

Does the sport mode completely disconnect the traction control and stability
control or to certain level. I feel there is some minor control still in affect.

Thanks for advice.

Boss

Re: Performance Mode

TC and stability are independent (at least on my 07 v) these must be controllled by switch on console. My V is a little wilder than stock. I installed D3 stage 1 and stage2 intake pipes with tune. I currently dyno 407 rear wheel HP up from 376 base line.

Re: Performance Mode

I believe it does. Give it a try. Move shifter into the gate (left side where you can manually change gears) but don't push up or down (manual shift) leave shifter in middle. Try this when stopped. accelerate and if it shifts by its self you have it.

Re: Performance Mode

Hey that car looks familiar!! Good to see the mods are working out well for him. Runs pretty good with all the goodies on there. Should be another tenth or so left in it.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Yes that is D3's stage 1 and 2 that made it go from a 12.8 -12.9 to a 12.4-12.5. Thanks D3 I love it but the 2006 Z06 that lined up with me did not and it was not my best run a 12.5 put 3 links on the vett.!

So Doc you think it should turn a 12.3 ?
I power braked to 2500 rpm.
