Why does the Northstar in XLR V have a smaller displacement than the one in the DTS?

I have not been able to get any kind of an answer to this question:

Why does the DTS have a Northstar with 4.6 and the XLR V Northstar is 4.4?

Thanks,

Ed

the V has a thicker block for better durability

Re: Why does the Northstar in XLR V have a smaller displacement than the one in the DTS?

I read somewhere that the reason is that there's less room under the hood on the XLR, and increased heat etc. was an issue, so they downsized the XLR bores to accommodate the different operating environment than is in the STS and DTS.

Re: Why does the Northstar in XLR V have a smaller displacement than the one in the DTS?

when you build a forced induction engine, it has to be able to withstand more stress (or so i heard) so (iirc) its the same block, but the bores are smaller making for a thicker and presumably stronger engine...

anyways who cares? what DTS is making 450+ hp? no reason to be jealous hehe.

(btw im a DTS owner so im not bashing DTS)

I just figured that I wanted to get my money's worth--especially when we are talking in the area of $100k.

LoL

More curious than anything.

Correcto on the thicker block. I had forgotten about that.

Damn, you are almost as smart as I am.
